12 things you should know about the upcoming iPhone 12

We are already through the first week of September and are about to close the second week. There is no indication of a new iPhone yet. Apple traditionally introduces new iPhones in the first weeks of September, and the phones will be available in retail outlets soon after. This year, the iPhone 12 reveal is also hit due to the global pandemic that has forced many other companies to postpone the launch dates for their devices.

Rumors have it that it won’t be long before we take a look at the iPhone 12 and its variants – four of them this year – along with the announcement of the new Apple Watch and new iPad. We could take a first look at the iPhone 1

2 series as early as next week. Before we got started, we detailed 12 interesting things you should know about the iPhone 12 and its models. All of this is based on rumors. As a result, the following information may change when Apple officially announces the new iPhone.

When will it be announced?

According to the latest reports, the announcement date for the iPhone 12 could officially be September 15th. This is the date on which Apple is hosting the Time Flies (September) event to mark the launch of the Apple Watch 6. Rumors suggested that this would be an event held online (10 a.m. PT, 1 p.m. EST), will be exclusive to the Apple Watch 6 and iPad Air 4, while the iPhone 12 won’t be announced until October. Now reports are revealing the possibility of a combined announcement of the new watch, iPad, and iPhone 12.

The well-known Apple leaker Jon Prosser thought that the iPhone 12 series will be announced in the week from October 12th. That rumor was followed by a report claiming the iPhone 12 release date was postponed to October as the COVID-19 pandemic hit Apple’s cupertino tech giant was forced to set new possible release dates for its most anticipated iPhones to see.

How many models?

The iPhone 12 series, the first for Apple, will include four separate models this year. The range could consist of two standard models – iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 Max, as well as two Pro models consisting of iPhone 12 Pro and iPhone 12 Pro Max.

The different sizes

The iPhone 12, with a supposedly 5.4-inch screen size, will be the smallest iPhone to hit the market since the iPhone SE. The iPhone 12 Pro Max with a 6.7-inch display will be the largest iPhone to date. It’ll be a bit bigger than the iPhone 11 Pro Max, which touts a 6.5-inch display. The iPhone 12 Max and the iPhone 12 Pro in between will likely have 6.1-inch screens.

For another premiere this year, Apple will likely upgrade the display for the entire iPhone 12 lineup. The new iPhones will switch from LCD panels to brighter OLED displays with better color contrast. While the iPhone 12 and 12 Max are expected to have a screen refresh rate of 60 Hz, the iPhone 12 Pro range could allegedly feature 120 Hz ProMotion display technology. Nothing is really known about the resolutions to be expected with both models.

Revised design

The iPhone 12 design has been fundamentally revised compared to the rounded design of the Apple offerings in recent years. According to reports, the new iPhone will support a square-edged design that is very similar to the iPhone 5 or the current iPad Pro.

Consistent rumors suggest that the iPhone 12 range will be thinner than the iPhone 11 last year and that the standard models of the iPhone 12 will have an aluminum case, while the Pro variants will have a stainless steel case. CAD designs of the iPhone 12 Pro Max from YouTuber EverythingApple Pro and the reliable yummy Max Weinbach suggested what the 6.7-inch flagship might look like. The new iPhones are expected to continue to have a glass back and maintain an IP68 rating (similar to the iPhone 11s), making them waterproof. No waterproof iPhone yet.

The computing power

All models in the iPhone 12 range are expected to feature the 5nm A14 Bionic chipset (for the first time in an iPhone), which increases the efficiency and speed of iPhones in a handset to the maximum possible level – some may think of OEMs with Qualcomm and MediaTek support to do.

The skill of the camera

Rumor has it that the standard models of the iPhone 12 will have two rear cameras – a primary shooter and an ultra-wide-angle lens, while the iPhone 12 Pro variants will have a triple camera array that adds a telephoto lens with 3x optical zoom. The Pro models have improved HDR functionality for improved photography in low light conditions and can record 4K video at 120 frames per second and slow motion at 240 frames per second.

Nothing is clear about the specifications of these cameras or the front camera of both models. There have been rumors that the iPhone 12 Pro Max is getting optical image stabilization for its ultra-wide camera, which was previously not possible for a single lens.

The iPhone 12 Pro and 12 Pro Max are expected to include a new LiDAR depth sensor. It is currently available in the iPad Pro range with Apple. Developers can now create finer augmented reality apps for the iPhone. To a user, the LiDAR sensor means that the iPhone can measure distance and depth more accurately and allow for improved adaptability to camera effects and AR apps.

iPhone 12 lineup is all 5G

There’s one thing that has been consistent with iPhone 12 rumors over the past few months, and that is 5G connectivity across all four iPhone 12 models. The entire iPhone 12 lineup offers sub6 GHz compatibility – iPhone 12 Pro and iPhone 12 Pro Max also offer faster mmWave 5G support.

What are the specifications of the iPhone 12 variants?

The iPhone 12 and 12 Max will likely come in two storage options – 128GB and 256GB. This is a significant jump for the standard 64GB of previous iPhone models. Both models come with 4 GB of RAM and may have batteries with a capacity of 2,227 mAh and 2,777 mAh, respectively. The iPhone 12 Pro and iPhone 12 Pro Max both have 6GB of RAM, paired with 128GB, 256GB, and 512GB of internal storage.

The iPhone 12 Pro has a similar battery to the iPhone 12 Max, while the iPhone 12 Pro Max has a battery with a capacity of 3,687 mAh. All models of the new iPhone 12 support wireless charging and reportedly come with magnets that allow easy arrangement of the wireless charger.

Possible color options

iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 Pro variants can come in the usual midnight green (which was introduced on the iPhone 11 Pro and unexpectedly sold for Apple), space gray, silver, and gold. According to reports, the iPhone 12 Pro and iPhone 12 Pro Max will feature an exciting new navy blue colorway.

Accessories for the iPhone 12 in the box

This year, the iPhone 12 and its variants will come with very few accessories. Apple likely won’t include the power adapter or a pair of Airpods in the box. The phone would only be accompanied by a charging cable – this time made of braided fabric. The iPhone 12 is more or less unlikely to use USB-C. So it’s a Lightning cable.

When will you get your iPhone?

Typically around this time in September, Apple announces new iPhones, with pre-orders starting about a week or two later. This year is far from normal, and Apple’s normality has also changed. When Apple announces the new iPhone 12 series on September 15th, we can expect the launch towards the end of the month. This seems very unlikely, however, as rumors have only been pointing to an October launch of the iPhone 12 for quite some time.

According to reports, pre-orders for the two standard models – iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 Max – are expected to open in the third week of October, and the phones may ship a week later (towards the end of October). Interestingly, the Pro models from the iPhone 12 Pro and iPhone 12 Pro Max won’t be pre-ordered until November. We’d take all of these claims with a pinch of salt for now, as Apple hasn’t come up with anything specific about when the iPhone 12 range will go on sale.

How is the iPhone 12 lineup rated?

Given that Apple is upgrading the iPhone 12 series to 5G and all models are getting better OLED displays, it’s no rocket science to guess that the prices of the iPhones will go up slightly this year. The smallest iPhone 12 is expected to start at $ 649, while the largest iPhone 12 Pro Max has the edge with a starting price of $ 1099.

According to leakster Jon Prosser, the iPhone 12 Max, which has a Pro-sized screen and iPhone 12 specs, would start at $ 749, while the iPhone 12 Pro would set you back at $ 999. Rumor has it that an iPhone 12 4G could hit the market again this year, and if it did it would cost a very competitive $ 549.
