The last event usually takes place in Los Angeles at the annual auto show racetrack. Legislators in the Golden State have made considerable efforts to promote emission-free vehicles. One might assume that the event focuses exclusively on electric cars, but that was never quite the case. While we saw some pretty cool EVs in 2019, many of the headliners were huge SUVs with luxurious interiors and lots of power. Powerful hot hatches were also well represented, and Nissan dared to introduce a fuel-efficient car in the City of Angels.
Here are our highlights from the 2019 edition of the fair. It's the cars we'll talk about on Thanksgiving, which we can not wait until 2020, and the concepts we'd rather see in the showrooms sooner rather than later.
Audi E- Tron Sportback
The electric car offensive from Audi is in full swing. Anyone familiar with the company's terminology will immediately know that the Sportback is a swoopier version of the electric E-Tron launched in 2018. Both models share a wide range of parts, including the base platform and the electric motors. However, the Sportback stands out with a fastback-like design, where the shape is more in the foreground than the function. It's a bit like Audi's response to the BMW X6 with electric spin.

2021 Ford Mustang Mach-E
Is this electric crossover really a Mustang? Yes and no. Well, mostly no, but somehow. Confused? Surprisingly, we got used to using Hyundai and mid-engines in the same sentence. The South Korean company has been providing us with high-performance hot-hatch concepts over the past five years without putting them into production. It is too early to see if the RM19 presented at the Los Angeles Auto Show will see the light at the end of a production line. The RM19 was accompanied on stage by a concept called Vision T, which offers a view of the next Tucson. To make it more realistic, Hyundai presented an updated version of its Ioniq EV with big increases in performance and range.
2021 Kia Seltos
The Seltos 2021, between Soul and Sportage helps consolidate Kia's status as one of American Value Champions. It's a compact soft-roader, so you can assume it's as tempting as a toilet seat, but that's not the case. Once again, Kia proved to be small and does not simply mean giving the Seltos an interesting design, a full range of drive options, including all-wheel drive, and a long list of technological features, including state-of-the-art infotainment systems and available surround sound, system and even electronic driving aids found in larger, more expensive cars.
Prices have not yet been announced, but the Seltos is expected to start below $ 22,000. The crossover shared the headlights with the updated variants of the Niro, which is offered with a hybrid, a plug-in hybrid and a battery electric powertrain.
2021 Mercedes-AMG GLS 63 S
600 hp. Not so long ago, that was an immense achievement that you had under your right foot, and that you could only experience in a handful of high-end cars. Fast forward to 2019, and it has almost become a new benchmark. 2020 Mini John Cooper Works GP
The John Cooper Works GP is no ordinary mini. It's the most powerful road-legal car ever produced by the BMW brand, certainly one of the rarest in the recent past, and the model developers have decided to get several 3D printed parts. The paddles are mainly 3D printed with metal, which is a cool feature we've never seen in a production car. The engine, with or without a 3D printer, turbocharged, is a 2.0-liter four-cylinder, which provides 306 hp and 331 pound-feet of torque. It is bolted to an eight-speed automatic transmission.
Mini will produce 3,000 copies of the John Cooper Works GP worldwide. Prices start at around $ 45,000.
2021 Toyota RAV4 Prime
Experience has shown us what we can expect from any car show, but we have never expected a 302 hp plug-in hybrid RAV4 with a range of 39 miles. The 2021 RAV4 Prime is powered by the same 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine as the existing hybrid model, but with a range of improved electrical components. Toyota sets its zero-on-60-mph pace at 5.8 seconds, which is damn fast, considering the RAV4 was never designed for any kind of performance.
Pricing information and fuel economy information will be released in the coming weeks until the mid-2020 sales date. While not the only plug-in model in its segment, we believe it will convince many buyers to buy a car Purchase plug.
Volkswagen ID Space Vizzion Concept
Volkswagen ID Space Vizzion concept was one of the more forward-thinking models introduced in Los Angeles. It is part of the ongoing ID series of design studies and consists of a wagon with sleek design and a fully electric powertrain. We like the interior, which relies on an augmented reality head-up display to place important information right in front of the driver. While the ID Space Vizzion is just a concept, Volkswagen hinted that it could turn into a production model sold primarily to the North American and European markets. In other words, keep your fingers crossed.
Volkswagen also announced its entry into the Baja 1000 race with a buggy in the form of the new Atlas Cross Sport. It will fly across the desert thanks to a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine delivering no less than 600 horsepower.
