2020 Chevy Corvette for up to 1,200 horsepower, promises Hennessey

Only needs a bald eagle.

Are you really surprised that Hennessey offers Performance Engineering performance enhancements for the 2020 Chevy Corvette ? You should not be. This is the tuning company that has been displacing over 1,000 horsepower from Corvettes for the C7 generation for years.

Nevertheless, HPE has announced that it will indeed work with the mid-engine sports car. In a Tuesday announcement, the Texas-based tuner announced plans to upgrade 2020 2020 Corvette drivers to 1

,200 thanks to a twin-turbo system under development and a "purpose-built" 6.2-liter LT2 V8 PS can be brought. This 1,200-horsepower package also comes with an upgraded dual-clutch gearbox to handle the big performance spike.

A separate package, thanks to a compressor system in which the company also works, makes 700 hp.

The tuner was open, saying that those big numbers will not be available until HPE breaks into the C8's computer to get it tuned. Rather notorious, GM boasted that the mid-engine Corvette was rather difficult to handle, thanks to the hardened ECU encryption for the aftermarket, over its know-how in working with General Motors' LT engine family and tuning experience from Corvettes and Camaros. Asked about a timeframe for computer tuning availability, the CEO stated that availability was "unknown at the time". He added, "[we] are confident that by 2020 we can offer a wide range of upgrades for the new C8."

The tuner will work with the 2020 Corvette as As soon as it arrives next year and in the meantime, it's hard to work on the supercharger and the twin-turbo system. They will be operational as soon as HPE eradicates the ECU side of things. In the meantime, less effective upgrades will be available next year.

Next year, there will be an upgrade to stainless steel exhaust systems to increase performance, and a boatload of carbon fiber body panels, wheel and brake assemblies, and suspension upgrades are all planned.
