2021 Cadillac Escalade improves its look, technology and comfort

Bigger, better and maybe a little boring, this is the completely redesigned Cadillac Escalade.

GM has completely revised its SUVs with bodywork on the frame. The models Chevrolet Tahoe and Suburban as well as GMC's equivalent models Yukon have already been unveiled. Now it's Cadillac's turn and the new Escalade makes its debut on Tuesday. This country luxury liner has been completely redesigned for 2021

and runs on new bones. It has a dramatically improved interior and offers a lot of innovative technology. This should definitely be the best escalade ever.

Of course, she shares a number of significant components with her more working siblings, although Cadillac's designers have invested the hours to ensure that this mechanical commonality is not obvious. Externally, the new Escalade is tastefully designed, bold, but probably more elegant than previous generations. There is a large grille at the front, which is flanked by square headlights. At the rear you will find elongated taillights that extend from the roof to the bumper. There are neatly designed pages between each end.

If you've followed what's going on with the latest Chevrolet Tahoe, for example, a lot of what's new here is unlikely to surprise you, although there are a number of delightful features exclusive to the Escalade, many of which are inside ,

2021 Cadillac Escalade: Smoother than ever

Undoubtedly, the most impressive unique piece of this vehicle is the arrangement of the screens on the dashboard. This Cadillac is equipped with three individual indicators, which are mounted in an elegant housing, which is beautifully integrated into the dashboard. The overall design was borrowed from the concept car Escala which bowed a few years ago.

This curved organic light-emitting diode screen is said to offer a diagonal of more than 38 inches with twice the pixel density of a 4K television. And thanks to the advanced OLED panel, the colors are bold and bright, and the blacks are dark.

To the left of the driver is a 7.2-inch display. In the middle is a reconfigurable digital 14.2-inch instrument cluster. Finally, a 16.9-inch main screen is mounted amidships on the dashboard. The horizontal layout of these displays should mean less driver distraction. Unexpectedly, there are no hoods on these panels. Supposedly they are not needed due to the high contrast of OLED, but we will see how true that is in the real world where this thing called glare exists.

The rest of the Escalade 2021's cabin is elegantly designed and made from first-class materials. In fact, no fewer than eight interior color and trim combinations will be available. Oddly enough, this newly designed SUV is equipped with a ridiculous electronic shift lever that looks like a candy bar-style cell phone from around 2005. In an otherwise elegant interior, this is a bad piece of GM parts container technology.

Aside from better interior design and materials, cabin space has been increased dramatically. The load space behind the third row has increased by 68%, while the legroom in the rear row of seats has increased by more than 10 inches compared to the outgoing model. Many of these improvements are due to a longer body and a stretched wheelbase, although the better packaging of the new independent rear suspension will certainly help as well.

There is a lot to tell from a technological point of view. Cadillac's commendable Super Cruise system is finally coming to the Escalade. It has been significantly improved in several ways and now offers an automatic lane change function.

In order to simplify the achievement of your goal a little, an augmented reality-supported navigation is offered. In this project, turn indications are projected via a live video feed of the street, which can be very useful in challenging situations or in crowded urban areas.

Huge taillights are an escalade staple.

The 2021 Escalade is offered with AKG sound systems, the first time that Samsung's own audio brand has been used in a vehicle. This step is similar to Mark Levinson systems in Lexus products or the partnership Lincoln with Revel.

The standard sound system of this Cadillac, however, has 19 speakers and a 14-channel amplifier. If only the best is enough, you want the AKG Studio reference system. With a whopping 36 speakers, it should definitely crank. Powered by three separate amplifiers, it has sound emitters throughout the cabin, in the ceiling, in the headrests and even in the center console.

It takes a lot of muscle to lug around a full SUV like the 2021 Escalade. And luckily for the drivers, Cadillac decorated this machine with a lot of grunt. The standard engine is a 6.2 liter small block V8 with 420 horsepower and 460 pound-feet of torque. It is equipped with variable valve control, automatic stop / start and even dynamic fuel management. This is a sleek new cylinder deactivation system that allows the engine to run on virtually any combination of cylinders for improved efficiency.

Foundation stone laid in full In the luxury SUV segment, a 3.0-liter inline six-cylinder diesel is offered. This Duramax unit is shared with the other full size GM light pickups. It's phenomenally smooth and high-torque, delivering 277 horsepower and 460 lb-ft twist. Also expect industry leading fuel consumption. Regardless of the engine, only one transmission is available in the 2021 Escalade. Each of them is equipped with an advanced, self-shifting 10-speed gearbox.

Comfort has been significantly improved, particularly in the two rows of rear seats.

As already mentioned, the old living axle of this Cadillac was thrown away like a used napkin and replaced by something much more modern. The Escalade not only has its own rear suspension design, but can also be equipped with magnetic dampers to further improve driving performance. But if that's not enough, an air suspension system is also available, similar to Tahoe, Suburban and Yukon. An electronic limited slip differential is also available as an option.

Together with the other large SUVs from GM, Cadillac's redesigned Escalade is built in Arlington, Texas. It is expected to go on sale in the third quarter of the year. Of course, pricing information was not released at this point, but version 2021 should be competitive with today's model, which means it is likely to start at around $ 80,000.

When it arrives at dealerships, you can choose from two different trim branches. As with its other models, Cadillac has adopted a "Y-shaped" model structure. A basic luxury version is offered, but there are also two forks. On the one hand, you can purchase a premium luxury model or a first-class platinum luxury version. If your proverbial boat swims a little more aggressively, spot and sport platinum versions are also available. They form the second branch of the "Y" and are supplied with grid inserts and a black-rendered outer cladding.
