Japan’s leading luxury brand announces Australian details for their redesigned, revamped alternative to European luxury mid-sizers.
- 2021 Lexus IS from $ 61,500 (before road costs)
- IS 300h Sports Luxury, 350 luxury models discontinued
- Extension packages integrated in the model price list
Australian pricing for the Lexus IS 2021 range was announced today and shows an optimized range of products – albeit with predefined “Enhancement Pack” models.
Available in Lexus showrooms from November 6th. The 2021 IS line starts at $ 61,500 (up $ 1,500 from current MY20 Redbook prices) and is $ 78,100 off road costs.
For the money, buyers get a completely new exterior design, a subtly refreshed cabin, a massively redesigned chassis and a host of new standard functions.
As a major overhaul of the existing model, the 2021 IS sedan is getting a completely new look and a host of chassis enhancements to bring most buyers the feel of a new generation – this is what Lexus suggests.
The updated IS was originally detailed in June and is 30mm wider and longer for new totals of 4710 and 1840mm respectively. The wheelbase, however, remains unchanged at 2800 mm – compared to, for example, 2851 mm in the new BMW 3 Series.
Although the new Lexus IS is based on a revised version of its existing architecture, it gains a wider track, growing by 50mm at the rear and 45mm at the front end.
The technical improvements include a stiffer structure, mainly thanks to reinforced radiator side supports, a larger number of welding points on the front components and optimized structures between the rear quarter pillars and the roof sides – “among other things”.
These improvements promise better ride comfort, less noise and vibration, and a more responsive steering experience (including, as Lexus says, smoother return on the center).
These changes have also reduced the curb weight by up to 30 kg (in the case of the IS 350 F Sport).
The 2021 Lexus IS also gets new swing valve shock absorbers with extremely low-speed valves.
The performance in the IS series is provided by the established trio of the Lexus brand consisting of four-cylinder turbo gasoline, V6 gasoline and a combined 2.5-liter gasoline-electric naturally aspirated hybrid system (without turbo).
For the IS 300 models this means a 2.0-liter four-cylinder turbo gasoline engine 180 kW and 350 Nm in a new emission-compliant Euro 6 configuration.
IS 300h models are powered by a hybrid system that couples a 2.5 liter four-cylinder petrol engine with electric motor. The combined power is 164 kW and the torque values are 221 Nm for the gasoline engine and 300 Nm for the electric motor.
Lexus describes individual peak powers as 133 kW from the gasoline engine and 105 kW from the electric motor, and while the torque values would combine along the speed range depending on driving conditions, no specific combined torque value is offered.
The fuel consumption for the IS 300h is 5.1 l / 100 km – compared to 4.9 l / 100 km in the previous model, which is due to the increase in wheel size.
Models with the IS 350 emblem are controlled by the company 3.5 liter suction gasoline V6with 232 kW and 380 Nm.
The IS 300 and 350 models are equipped with a “revised” reaction-oriented eight-speed automatic transmission, while the IS 300h is again equipped with a CVT (continuously variable transmission).
The fuel consumption of the 2021 IS 300 and IS 350 models has not yet been listed, but the previous models were 7.5 l / 100 km and 9.5 l / 100 km respectively.
The new standard features of this latest generation IS include 18-inch alloy wheels (instead of 17), an electric parking brake (instead of a foot), a new 10.3-inch touch display with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
The new standard safety features include a pre-collision system with pedestrian detection during day and night and daytime cyclist detection as well as active cruise control for all speeds, a lane following assistant, traffic sign detection, monitoring of the blind spot, a parking assistance brake and a rear crossing traffic alarm (with brakes).
These functions complement the existing standard kit, which already includes Smart Entry and Start, heated front seats adjustable in eight directions, two-zone climate control, audio with 10 loudspeakers, digital radio, satellite navigation with SUNA live traffic warnings, voice control and LED headlights with automatic high beam.

Luxury models are available with a $ 2000 Enhancement Pack with a sunroof or the $ 5500 Enhancement Pack 2 with a sunroof and 19-inch alloy wheels, high-quality LED headlights, seat trim with leather accents and ventilated front seats. Driver store settings, Mark Levinson audio with 17 speakers and a powered rear sunshade.
For the first time, F Sport models are fitted with 19-inch light-alloy wheels as well as the required F Sport design and the adaptive variable sports suspension.
As always, F-Sport models are no more powerful than their regular siblings – and it’s a shame that there is no F-Hero model in full bottle in the current IS range.
The further F Sport-specific kit includes the Sport S and Sport S + driving modes, F Sport leather upholstery, sport pedals and seats (ventilated in the first row) and a digital 8.0-inch driver display, which is based on the now legendary LFA Supercar is inspired.
All three F Sport models are available with a $ 3,300 enhancement pack that includes a sunroof, Mark Levinson audio with 17 speakers, and powered rear sunshade.
