It was only a matter of time. A convertible top fit perfectly with the sleek design of the Lexus LC, and also the flagship of the Lexus was always available for the competition as a convertible. Nevertheless, we had to wait until the Los Angeles Auto Show 2019 to see the production-ready Lexus LC 500 Cabriolet 2021. Sun worshipers have to wait until the summer of 2020 to bring it into the driveway.
Lexus used to show the LC convertible both as a concept car and as a prototype for pre-production, so there are not many puzzles here. Engineers opted for a soft top rather than a retractable hardtop because, according to Lexus, it does not have much of an impact on the interior of the cabin or trunk. Opening the roof takes 1
Under the skin, Lexus added a structural stiffener to account for the loss of a solid roof. This contributes to the weight together with the hood and its mechanism. Part of this was offset by the use of an aluminum die-cast rear suspension. The suspension tuning differs according to Lexus also from the LC coupe.
Like the LC-500 coupe, the convertible is equipped with rear-wheel drive and a 5.0-liter V8 at the front. The V8 is paired with a 10-speed automatic transmission and delivers 471 hp and 398 pound-feet of torque. While Lexus offers a hybrid version of the LC coupe, a hybrid convertible was not mentioned.
To make the convertible season as long as possible, the air conditioning of the LC adapts automatically when the top is facing up or down. Neck warmers are designed to make driving in cooler weather more pleasant, and the automatic climate system sends according to the Lexus automatically warm or cold air on the back of the driver when he grabs the steering wheel. According to Lexus, the shape of the body should also help reduce gusts of wind.
Like other Lexus models, the LC will also be available alongside the previously available Apple CarPlay Android Auto and Amazon Alexa connectivity. A 10.3-inch screen displays infotainment features.
Prices will be announced closer to the launch of the vehicle. However, Lexus noted that the version shown at the LA Auto Show is a special edition of the Inspiration Series. The production will be limited to 100 cars, all in structural blue with blue top and semi-aniline leather trim. Lexus has previously created an Inspiration Series version of the LC coupe.
