In the new program, hosts can open their homes free of charge via Airbnb's Open Homes platform for emergency accommodation created in 2012. Airbnb also announced that all guest stay fees will be waived if hosts are unable to offer their apartments for free. The company announced plans to implement stricter disinfection and safety measures in the participating residences.
"Medical workers and first responders are providing life-saving help during the coronavirus outbreak and we want to help," Airbnb co-founder Joe Gebbia said in the press release. "We have heard from countless hosts around the world who want to provide a reassuring home to heroic first responders. We connect our nonprofit partners, government agencies and others with our incredible host community to work together in these extraordinary times."
