TL; DR: The AirPods Pro have dropped to $ 219.98 and $ 219.99 on Amazon and Verizon, respectively – just $ 0.05 less than on Amazon.
After Apple reportedly scrapped a conference in March 2020 (and the related announcement of the iPhone 9) due to coronavirus, we finally have dates for fall: the virtual event will take place on September 15 at 10 a.m. PT /. 1 p.m. ET.
Aside from the fact that there won’t be a live audience, it is rumored that iPhone 9 or 12 reveals could also be missing. (For that it looks like October.) Instead, Apple is expected to focus on continuing the Apple Watch Series 5 and a new iPad Pro.
New AirPods are mentioned much less often. A new pair, apparently called the AirPods Studio, could be slated for 2020, but no one knows if that will mean the September event. Unless you want to upgrade from The AirPods Pro are still great and still your best bet if you’re looking to buy a new pair of (also rumored) earbuds for $ 349. Regularly retailing the AirPods Pro for $ 249 will save you $ 100 compared to the studio. However, selling on Amazon and Verizon can add another $ 29 to your savings. (Verizon says the discount is $ 30, but that’s because the original list price is $ 249.99 instead of the $ 249 that Amazon and Apple have.)
As of now, the AirPods Pro are Apple’s only headphones with active noise-canceling technology – and as one of the few truly wireless noise-canceling earbuds on the market, they’re hard to beat. It’s not the exact kind of silence you’d get with a Sony or Bose pair that completely covers your ear, but it’s euphoric to block out distractions that arise while working or studying from home. The “active” part of noise cancellation means that each AirPod is constantly adapting itself – 200 times per second – to your environment in order to shut off the ambient noise of that particular environment.
The Pro charging case is larger and more of a horizontal rectangle than the square of the regular AirPods. It can be charged wirelessly and should allow an additional battery life of 18 to 24 hours.
