Amazon gives Samuel L. Jackson his own Alexa wake phrase

Amazon adds tens of thousands more phrases to its language skills from Samuel L. Jackson for its Alexa digital assistant, including much more of the actor’s legendary, explosive delivery. The company also gives Jackson his own wake-up phrase, “Hey, Samuel.” The news follows on Monday’s announcement by Amazon that the next celebrity voice, Bollywood star Amitabh Bachchan, will be added for the Indian market sometime next year.

The Jackson partnership started last December and allows Alexa users to pay $ 0.99 to access the actor’s voice on Echo and other Alexa-enabled devices. According to Amazon, consumers have since complained that the integration was “overly burdensome”

; as they effectively had to ask Alexa to ask Jackson to respond to something.

Additionally, the range of questions and exchanges you could have with the Jackson Skill was limited, mainly because Amazon recorded only a small number of words using the real voice of the actor and relied on artificial intelligence to do the library expand. While collecting feedback, Amazon said that most owners of the skill – nearly 75 percent of whom had explosives activated – requested a more open Jackson off the shelf than was currently possible through Alexa.

Now, in today’s update, Jackson’s Alexa integration will include around 30,000 more phrases, including five times the swear words diversity. And you can activate the voice simply by saying “Hey Samuel,” a feature that turned out to be “an incredibly tough technical challenge.” Amazon said it was necessary to update the wake word detector on the device in order to activate it.

Some examples are Jackson who says, “Look at that hot ball of gas and fire! No, don’t really look “when you ask about the weather, and” Why do Jedis always burn their pancakes? You never “turn to the dark side” when you ask for a joke.

diversity also reports that Jackson now offers a touching response when asked what he is up to, in which he replies that he is thinking about the late Black Panther Star Chadwick Boseman. There are other recent responses to Jackson’s future work too, like one mentioning his upcoming Quibi animation show with Ryan Reynolds Futha Mucka.
