Amazon has unveiled a bizarre home surveillance drone that flies around your home when you’re not there, looking for intruders.
The Always Home Cam is revealed by Ring, the company’s security guard, and can fly to check if the stove is off or the window is still open while the user is away.
It consists of a flying black camera powered by rotor blades that automatically lifts off a stationary white dock when it detects movement in the house.
In the case of unwanted visitors, the camera transmits a live view of what is going on in the user’s house to their smartphone via the Ring app.
The drone only records when it is in the air and makes a sound when it flies so everyone in the house knows that it is recording.
Amazon said it was inspired to create a security product that could move more freely around the house to “offer more flexibility in viewing”
The US company also announced an updated spherical design for its Echo smart speakers and a new cloud gaming service.

The flying part of the device rests in the base. The camera is physically blocked when docking
“We wanted to develop a camera that would give users the flexibility of any desired viewing angle at home while meeting our basic principles of privacy and security,” said Ring founder Jamie Siminoff in a blog post.
” This autonomous indoor surveillance camera flies along the personalized routes you choose, making it easy for you to check into your home.
“Rather than simply encouraging customers to buy more cameras and put them in more locations around the house, how could we have a solution to this problem?”
The obstacle avoidance technology prevents Always Home Cam from encountering unexpected or low hanging objects when moving over paths set by the user in the app.
The camera does not start recording until it leaves the white base – and when the device rests in the base the camera is physically blocked and cannot record.

The small size, lightweight design, and jacketed propellers allow it to move safely around the house, according to Amazon.
The Ring Always Home Cam has yet to be approved by the US Federal Communications Commission. Once released, it will go on sale next year for $ 250 (about £ 195).
Industry expert and chief researcher at analyst firm CCS Insight, Ben Wood, said Amazon is becoming “increasingly ubiquitous in our daily lives.”
“The Always Home Cam is an incredibly ambitious device that will appear like a science fiction movie to many consumers,” he said.
‘I expect this to generate a lot of interest from technology enthusiasts who usually prefer smart home technology first.
“However, it is also likely to spark a big discussion about privacy and the future role of technology in the home.”
Amazon sought to allay consumer fears that the company would use home records.

Critics raised concerns about the privacy of Ring, best known for its doorbell cameras, citing the company’s close relationship with law enforcement agencies.
But ring president Leila Rouhi said the company will never proactively share videos with law enforcement.
The company emphasized that privacy and security “endorse every product, feature, and service,” including the Always Home Cam.
Always Home Cam only flies where the user wants it and cannot be manually controlled by someone entering the house – only through an app on the user’s phone.
The device was one of several that Amazon presented on Thursday as part of its annual gadget event.
The sensor-equipped device will immediately send an alert to the Ring app when it detects an event, such as: B. a dent, break-in, towing, or attempt to open the door
Due to the pandemic, this year’s version took place online at Amazon’s headquarters in Seattle.
Ring Car Alarm, an in-car device that triggers an alarm when a break-in or bump is detected, was also introduced and will be released next year.
When users get the alert, they can quickly check the last known location of the vehicle and take action by triggering a built-in siren.
Amazon’s home security business has grown since it acquired Ring in February 2018. However, this is the first ever car safety product.
In addition to cameras, Amazon also showed a new look for its Alexa-based Echo smart speakers, which feature a completely new design and improved audio quality.

The new line has switched from the original hockey puck shape to a striking spherical design.
It has a bright LED ring of light at the base of the sphere that reflects off the surfaces “for added visibility”.
The new Echo also features a 3.0-inch woofer, dual-igniter tweeter, and Dolby processing for better stereo sound.
The new Echo is £ 90 and the smaller Echo Dot is £ 50, while a children’s version of the Echo Dot is also available with a panda or tiger design.
All new Echo devices will be shipping to customers starting next month.
Amazon also announced that it is entering the video game streaming business to compete with Google and Microsoft.
With the new Amazon Luna game service, subscribers can stream games from the cloud to their televisions and computers, as well as to iPhones and iPads via web apps.

WHY ARE PEOPLE AFFECTED BY DATA PROTECTION WITH AMAZONS ALEXA DEVICES?
Amazon devices were previously activated if they were not wanted. This means that the devices may be listening.
Millions are reluctant to invite the devices and their powerful microphones into their homes for fear that their conversations will be heard.
Amazon devices rely on microphones to look for a keyword that can be accidentally triggered without their owner’s knowledge.
The camera on the £ 119.99 ($ 129) Echo Spot, which doubles as a “smart alarm”, will likely be aimed directly at the user’s bed as well.
The device has microphones so sophisticated that people can speak from anywhere in the room – even when music is playing. A hack by British security researcher Mark Barnes turned the 2015 and 2016 versions of the Echo into a live microphone.
Fraudsters could then use this live audio feed to gather sensitive information from the device.
