Amitabh Bachchan becomes Alexa’s first Indian celebrity voice

Amitabh Bachchan will be on Alexa soon. Amazon has announced a partnership with the 77-year-old Bollywood star that will bring his voice to Amazon’s digital assistant, making him the first Indian celebrity voice on Alexa. The Bachchan Alexa skill offers jokes, weather, advice, Shayaris (Urdu poetry), motivational quotes and more. It’s scheduled to launch as a paid experience in 2021, but Amazon says you can get a taste of what it sounds like by saying this into any Alexa-enabled device, “Alexa, say hello to Mr. Amitabh Bachchan.”

“Technology has always given me the ability to adapt to new shapes,” Bachchan said in a statement posted in the mail. “Be it in films, TV shows, podcasts and now I̵

7;m looking forward to creating this language experience in collaboration with Amazon and Alexa. With language technology, we are building something up so that we can interact more effectively with my audience and my well-wishers. “

Amazon India Alexa Experience Guide Puneesh Kumar added, “Mr. Bachchan’s voice is truly unforgettable to any Indian who grew up with Bollywood. This combination provides a perfect pitch to further delight and simplify our customers’ lives. We are excited to see how our customers react when they use Alexa and hear his voice. “

Bachchan is the first Indian celebrity to voice Alexa, but he joins Samuel L. Jackson, who was debunked as the first Alexa celebrity voice last September. However, the Jackson Alexa Skill is only available in US English. Amazon’s announcement suggests that Bachchan’s Alexa ability will be limited to India, and the first demo suggests that he will speak in Hindi. It is unclear whether Bachchan speaks English as well.

Alexa is available on Amazon Echo devices, Fire TV Stick, and many third-party phones, bluetooth speakers, headphones, watches, and televisions. It is also available via the Alexa app or the Amazon app for Android.
