Apex Legends surprised the game world two months ago and brought a new, frenetic dynamism to the Battle Royale genre of games, which already attracted 50 million players.
The first big milestone did not come at a great price – reportedly EA Ninja paid $ 1 million for streaming the game. Now, the question arises as to whether Respawn can retain and convert his new, insatiable legion of players.
Luckily for Respawn, Fortnite has paved the way for monetizing this type of game and generating the game itself for free and for free, from a virtual item store and a Battle Pass. The Battle Pass concept allows users to qualify for levels and earn skins, camos and other cosmetic items.
However, Apex Legends offers a unique opportunity to make the Battle Pass even more attractive. Currently this opportunity is called Octane.
It is believed that Octane is the Battle Pass character of the game. We do not know anything for sure, but a datamin and some allegedly leaked photos have led people to believe that Octane has a stim-shot ability that allows him to swap movement speed for his health with another ability that takes him can recover from combat situations.
But its ultimate rumor is what people look forward to should the rumors turn out to be true. Octane's ultimate ability is probably a launch pad that would make the whole team (and the enemies, one might assume) jump around during a fight.
There is a curious twist. While we wait for the launch of the Battle Pass, Respawn has added a handful of the same Launchpads to the Marketplace game on the map. These are static launchpads, but they still work.
This begs the question: Are the Launchpads just a static addition to the map itself or are they being tested by Respawn? coming ultimate ability of Octane? In both cases, Octane presents an interesting opportunity for Respawn and the Apex Battle Pass.
With Apex Legends based on a heroic system in which individual characters bring unique abilities, weapons, and equipment to the game, Apex can now offer new hero characters the Battle Pass. This is different from Fortnite's suite of virtual products that offer no game advantage and serve only cosmetic purposes.
A new character with skills and abilities that could lead to your success can make some of FOMO's undecided about the Battle Pass. New content and hopefully more appealing weapon camos should lead to a new wave of growth as the core user base is strengthened again. However, it is a challenge to reconcile this urgency with the time required to build a beautiful, bright season.
Respawn undoubtedly has work on the game that has already started. The explosive growth of the game led to serious server problems early on, and the lag has kept the top players in turmoil.
All in all Respawn seems to handle the pressure well. Some believe the Battle Pass has already been delayed to ensure a polished start. At the moment it is a waiting game.
