Apple Event 2020 is today: Everything we expect from a new iPad to an Apple Watch

Apple event invitation

Apple

After months of speculation as to whether we will get one or not iPhone 1

2 and Apple Watch 6 In the same period as in previous years, Apple confirmed that a Launch event later today – Virtually, of course. The Apple Store is not available and the company sent out an invitation last week for September 15 at 10 a.m. PT (1 p.m. ET, 6 p.m. UK). Access is via the Apple website, the YouTube channel or via the events app on Apple TV. Any other year, the headliner would be obvious: a shiny new iPhone. But the chaos in 2020 likely forced some line-up changes.

While Apple hasn’t released an official statement on what to expect, the company warned investors in July that the next iPhone would be “a few weeks” delayed. A number of outlets including CNET and Bloomberg have also suggested that we won’t see an iPhone 12 until mid-October.

But even with a new iPhone out of the equation, Apple still has a lot to announce on Tuesday. We expect new hardware, software and subscription services at this event.

Hidden clues in the invitation

The slogan “Time Flies” on the invitation indicates that the Apple Watch will be the headliner of this event. But there is also a very clear reference to augmented reality. When you click the event logo in Safari, the date of the event, 9:15 am, will appear as an AR animation. This could refer to a time-of-flight sensor rumored to be coming to the iPhone this year, like the one on the iPad Pro 2020. Or it could point to more ARKit features on the next iPad Air, which it is According to rumors, there will be refreshment at this event.

We can dissect the invitation all day, but the only thing we know for sure is the time and date of that event. If 2020 has taught us anything, we really can’t rule anything out. Instead, let’s focus on what we know right now.

Several Apple Watches and iPads in preparation

Apple has filed several versions of the iPad and Apple Watch with the Eurasian Economic Commission, as originally reported by French tech site Comsomac. In the past, the filings have provided a pretty close look at Apple’s next steps.

The Apple Watch Series 6 is expected to have better battery life for more robust sleep tracking and at least one new health tracking feature. The strongest rumor seems to be about tracking new SpO2 or blood oxygen levels.

The other surprise could be a cheaper version of the Apple Watch, possibly called the Apple Watch SE, with the same look and feel as the current Series 3. It’s likely it would cost the same from $ 200, but it came with a newer processor becomes .

The latest rumors about the iPad Air update suggest a bigger, bezel-less screen and design similar to the current Pro model. That means flat edges and no home button. Instead of replacing Touch ID with Face ID, rumors point to a Touch ID sensor integrated into the side button. The updated iPad would likely get an updated processor too, since the current Air is still using Apple’s older A10 chip. It can also switch to USB-C instead of a Lightning connector like the iPad Pro. The better processor would allow more ARKit functionality, albeit not quite as advanced as the iPad Pro with its depth-sensing lidar scanner.

Software: WatchOS 7 and iPadOS 14 may receive a full version

With the Apple Watch 6 and the iPad Air in the wild, it would only make sense for Apple to publish the corresponding operating system updates as well.

Publishing the final version of WatchOS 7 is a breeze. This update enables sleep tracking on existing Apple Watches (Series 3 or higher) and includes a new hand washing function. It would be difficult to just release iPadOS on its own because it’s so interlaced iOS 14Therefore, Apple could wait until the new mobile operating system is released along with the new iPhone 12 in October.

New fitness service and a bundle called Apple One

Last year Apple went all-in with subscription services like Apple TV Plus, News Plus, and Apple Arcade, and we may not have seen the last of them. It is rumored that Apple is launching a new fitness service with guided workouts that is primarily geared towards the Apple Watch, but can also be streamed on the iPhone, iPad, and Apple TV. There are already many third-party apps out there that do this. However, this app is offered by Apple and built right into the Health app, much like Fitbit offers with its premium subscription service which costs $ 10 per month.

And if that all sounds like subscription overload, there’s a bundle for that. Apple is also expected to launch a new subscription service bundle called Apple One. 9to5Google even found a clue about it hidden in the code of the Android version of Apple Music.
