Apple has confirmed that its next special event will be on Tuesday, September 15th. The event will take place at the Steve Jobs Theater at Apple’s headquarters in Cupertino, California and will begin at 10 a.m. local time (10:30 p.m. EST). This would be the first autumn event that will take place virtually.
The technology giant’s invitation did not specifically state which products will be presented at the event. Usually, however, Apple launches its new devices in September. However, given the unprecedented situation arising from the Covid-19 pandemic, we do not know if the event is about the iPhone and whether it is actually the iPhone, an actual launch event or more of a storefront of what to expect in the near future.
If a notice can be read in the invitation titled Time Flies, the event could be focused on the next-generation Apple Watch. The Apple Watch could become more relevant if it includes features that will help people keep an eye on their health during the pandemic. For example, the Apple Watch Series 6 could offer the ability to monitor blood oxygen saturation or SpO2 tracking. The sleep tracking is natively integrated as indicated by watchOS 7. It is also believed that the Watch Series 6 would receive an improved processor and battery life.
Apple is currently expected to unveil a number of new iPhones at the September event. As of now, there are all indications that there will be four models and three different screen sizes, a 5.4-inch iPhone 12, a 6.1-inch iPhone 12 Max, a 6.1-inch iPhone 12 Pro and a 6.7-inch iPhone 12 Pro Max.
What devices will Apple release in September 2020?
For the first time, all models will have OLED displays that are brighter and more contrasty. The new phones will look similar to the iPhone 11, although the edges of the iPhone 12 will have a box-shaped design – similar to the iPhone 4 and iPad Pro. The top-end models are said to have a lidar scanner like the iPad Pro. The new iPhones are also widely expected to have built-in 5G support. The new iPhone 12 range will come with a new chipset called A14, which is supposedly based on the 5 nanometer process.
According to reports, this year’s iPhone will come without a charger or headphones. The iPhone 12 is slated to start at $ 649 for the cheapest 5.4-inch model, and the top-of-the-line iPhone 12 Pro Max at $ 1,099. The iPhone 12 is expected to be available for retail sale in October.
Other Apple products like the iPad Air 4, AirTags, a cheaper HomePod, and an updated Apple TV streaming box could also be announced during the same event. A new Mac with an ARM-based processor could also be introduced, although details are barely available for now.
Tim Cook and the team will likely use the event to discuss future growth prospects for the services business. Over the past year, Apple introduced several new services like Apple TV +, Apple Arcade, and Apple News +. According to reports, Apple could launch new subscriptions that bundle many of its branded services. The plans, referred to as “AppleOne”, offer Apple services like Apple Music and Apple Arcade at different price levels – under one payment. The move would help expand the user base of Apple’s core services. Apple has been betting on subscription income for the past few years as the company tries to reduce its reliance on the iPhone and other major hardware products.
