Apple today released new 3A283 firmware updates for the second generation AirPods and AirPods Pro. The second generation “AirPods” will be updated from the previously run 2D15 firmware, while the “AirPods” pros will be updated from the previously installed 2D27 firmware.
Apple does not provide details of what is in the updated firmware, so we do not know what is in it. However, we are waiting for a new firmware that supports iOS 14 functions such as automatic device switching and spatial audio for the “AirPods Pro”.
There is no standard way to update the AirPods firmware because the new firmware is installed wirelessly while the AirPods are connected to an iOS device. If you put the “AirPods” in the case, connect the “AirPods” to a power source and then pair the “AirPods” with an iPhone or iPad, the update should be forced after a short time.
You can check the firmware of your “AirPods” or “AirPods Pro” by following these steps:
- Connect your “AirPods” or “AirPods Pro” to your iOS device.
- Open the Settings app.
- Tap General.
- Tap on Info.
- Tap AirPods.
- Look at the number next to “Firmware Version”.
It has been a few months since Apple released new firmware updates for the AirPods and AirPods Pro.
