Spotify was one of the largest tech companies that Apple accused of having too much power and monopoly business practices. Now, following Apple’s September event that included the official announcement of the Apple One service package, Spotify has again issued a condemnation statement.
Immediately after Apple’s “Time Flies” event in September, which included new Apple Watches, iPads, and services like Apple Fitness + and the Apple One service package with Apple Music, Spotify gave a fiery response through Cheddar’s JD Durkin:
Once again, Apple is using its dominant position and unfair practices to penalize competitors and deprive consumers by giving preference to its own services. We urge competition authorities to take urgent action to curb Apple̵7;s anti-competitive behavior. If not verified, it will cause irreparable damage to the developer community and jeopardize our collective freedoms to listen, learn, create, and connect.
Spotify’s call for governments to “act urgently” comes because Apple is in the middle of a legal battle with Epic Games over issues similar to Apple’s App Store practices.
After a few hours, Apple issued an official response to Reuters’s Stephen Nellis regarding the recent Spotify attack that the bundle is great for customers and doesn’t interfere with finding alternatives to its own offerings:

We’re introducing Apple One because it’s great value for customers and it’s an easy way to access all of Apple’s subscription services. We recommend the Apple One plan, which will save you the most money because of the subscriptions you already have. It’s perfect for anyone who loves our services and wants to get more for less, and it’s especially good for families. Also, select services included with Apple One are available for non-Apple devices and you can cancel them at any time.
Spotify’s complaints against Apple were heard by the U.S. Department of Justice last year, and Spotify also filed a formal complaint with the European Commission. Apple responded to the latter by highlighting that only 0.5% of Spotify users receive a commission.
Apple’s antitrust control continues to grow around the world as the latest service products evolve. However, the US DOJ may not be ready to tackle Apple.
