Apple says its supply chains and products will be carbon neutral by 2030 – TechCrunch



Apple announced plans this morning to make its entire business climate neutral over the next 10 years. The news follows the company’s push towards a completely climate-neutral corporate structure, in which the manufacturing supply chain and the resulting products are included in the mix.

The sustainability roadmap published today as part of the company’s annual environmental progress report. Reducing every device sold to zero climate impact means a few things. The main concern is to find ways to reduce emissions from production by 75%. The rest will focus on efforts to remove carbon from the atmosphere.

The company has already started to manufacture a larger percentage of its products from recycled materials, thanks in part to its own home robots Dave and Daisy (seriously) 2001 Vibes), which recover important rare earth magnets and tungsten together with a certain steel extraction. The company also operates its own material recovery laboratory in Austin, which is supported by Carnegie Mellon engineers.

Apple says it works with more than 70 utilities to make its manufacturing centers 100% renewable. A partnership that it believes will reduce roughly the same amount of CO2 emissions annually as three million cars. The company is also working to bring one of the world’s largest solar systems to market in Europe. Regarding the remaining 25% of CO2 reduction, there are a number of initiatives outlined in the report, including efforts to use forests in Africa and South America.

It is also planned to launch an “Impact Accelerator” that aims to invest in minority-owned companies created as part of the company’s Racial Equity and Justice Initiative. Regarding sustainability, VP Lisa Jackson said in a press release: “Systemic racism and climate change are not separate issues and they will not adhere to separate solutions. We have the ability to help build a greener, fairer economy across generations by developing entirely new industries to offer the next generation a planet worthy of being called home. “

Apple has received generally good marks from Greenpeace in recent years for its aggressive efforts to limit the impact of its massive global activities.
