Apple will be showcasing a wide range of new products at a virtual event on Tuesday, as well as upgrading two of its key hardware lines outside of the iPhone.
The California-based tech giant is set to unveil an Apple Watch, likely dubbed the Series 6, with features like a faster processor and a blood oxygen meter, according to those familiar with the product. The new watch will be available in the same 40mm and 44mm sizes as the current models.
The company is also planning a new low-end model to fend off cheaper offers from competitors like Fitbit.

The Apple Watch was last updated in September 2019 when the company added an always-on screen and new cases. This year, for the first time since 2016, two new models will be released simultaneously.
New iPhones will follow
Apple’s event will also be remarkable for what habit to be unveiled: new iPhones.
The Covid-19 pandemic disrupted final testing of new 5G models earlier this year and delayed the company’s ability to begin mass production. Apple now plans to announce its four new iPhones in October. This is the latest iPhone announcement since 2011.
With an announcement in October, Apple will miss the usual weeks of new iPhone sales in the fourth quarter of the fiscal year ending this month, along with a few weeks of sales in the main vacation quarter. This could drive the typical year-end sales surge for the iPhone into 2021. An Apple spokeswoman declined to comment.
For Tuesday, Apple is also preparing its first update for the iPad Air since the line restarted in March 2019.
The new model is similar to the iPad Pro in that the home button is replaced with an all-screen look. It will use a slower processor and will be missing some features like the ProMotion screen on the iPad Pro.
A new mid-range iPad could boost Apple sales even further as consumers look for devices that allow them to work and study from home.
The current iPad Air costs $ 499, which is way below the iPad Pro’s $ 799 price. A tablet that looks similar to the iPad Pro but comes at a much cheaper price point could make the new iPad Air a hot seller this holiday season.
In the third fiscal quarter of this year, Apple achieved sales of $ 6.6 billion for the iPad, the highest since the 2018 Christmas season.
Apple One subscription packs
The release of a new iPad and Apple Watch will correspond with the introduction of software updates for iOS 14, iPadOS 14 and watchOS 7 this month.
The company is also preparing to announce Apple One service packs, which will allow customers to subscribe to several of the company’s digital services for a lower monthly price.
The company plans to announce new Mac computers with their own chips by November. Apple’s first over-ear headphones and accessories for finding physical objects will be available later this year.
Apple is also working on a smaller HomePod speaker that looks like the original, but is cheaper and has fewer speakers, according to people familiar with the product.
Earlier this year, Apple announced that it would update its HomePod software with improved integration with the Apple TV set-top box and support for third-party music services.
