Apple’s “Time Flies” event has just ended and brings updates to the Apple Watch and iPad, as well as new products in both categories. Here is everything you need to know about price and availability in India.
While the iPhone 12 was not seen at today’s event, Apple announced four new products and some services as part of its ecosystem. Product launches included the Apple Watch Series 6, Apple Watch SE, the 8th generation iPad and the brand new iPad Air. This was also only the second time in the company’s history that new silicon – the A14 Bionic – was not on the iPhone of the year was presented.
All new iPad Air (2020)
The biggest announcement was the new updated iPad Air. The iPad Pro adopts design elements, with slat sides, narrower bezels around the 10.9-inch display and the switch to a USB Type-C port. What’s more interesting is that it runs on the new Apple A14 Bionic chipset, the world’s first 5 nm SoC, which is said to deliver 30% better performance with its six-core CPU and quad-core GPU. There’s Apple Pencil support too, and the fingerprint scanner is embedded in the power button.
The 4th generation iPad Air will be available from October at a starting price of Rs 54,900 for the Wi-Fi variant and Rs 66,900 for the cellular variant. The memory configurations are 64 GB and 256 GB. Color options include silver, space gray, rose gold, green, and sky blue.
iPad 8th gen.
The new iPad is still the cheaper tablet of the current generation in Apple’s product range. The upgrades are very minor with a 10.2-inch retina display, upgraded cameras, and longer battery life. It moves up to the A12 Bionic Chip. It starts at Rs 29,900 and goes up to Rs 41,900 for the cellular variant. Storage options include 32GB and 128GB.
Apple Watch Series 6
The 2020 Apple Watch update will be powered by a new S6 processor to improve performance by up to 20%. Other hardware upgrades include a brighter display and new sensors for continuous altitude tracking, blood oxygen levels and VO2 max. The chassis of the new smartwatch will also be available in new colors such as blue and Product RED.
It starts at Rs 40,900 for the Wi-Fi variant and Rs 49,900 for cellular communications. 40mm and 44mm options are available.
Apple Watch SE
The new Apple Watch SE aims to offer the same design and features for a cheaper price. It is visually indistinguishable from the other smartwatches in the family and has the same fitness-oriented functions and sensors. Notably, the blood oxygen tracker doesn’t make the cut, but at least you get the altimeter.
It starts at Rs 29,900 for Wi-Fi and Rs 33,900 for cellular. Size options include 40mm and 44m.
Details on the launch of the iPhone 12 should also be available soon.
The company also announced subscription plans for Apple Fitness Plus and Apple One to make it easier to access additional features and services. iOS 14, iPad OS 14 and Watch OS 7 are launched today.
