The long-awaited third entry in Baldur’s Gate series should be released sometime this month, but developer Larian Studios confirmed in a tweet that the game would miss this window. CEO Swen Vincke was optimistic in June that the early start of access would arrive on time, but mentioned that working from home due to the pandemic had made it difficult to achieve this goal, as was the case with many developers.
There is no updated timeframe for Larian’s new release date, but the studio mentioned in the same tweet that it is coming sooner rather than later. The Panel From Hell livestream will provide this information on August 1
Good news and bad news. BG3 won’t hit August, but it’s just around the corner. We will announce the release date and great news on the From Hell panel together with @geoffkeighley, @LarAtLarian and the Larian crew. Set August 18th. https://t.co/S1RlVpJ8yw pic.twitter.com/NCkrnHHpH0

Baldur’s Gate, one of BioWare’s first games, is a legendary and popular role-playing game that paved the way for the genre. The game and its sequel, Baldur’s Gate II: Shadow of Amnand the extensions were all published around the turn of the century. The series was an official link to the Juggernaut Tabletop RPG series Dungeons, with complications about the rights to the game that lead to no Baldur’s Gate 3 for almost two decades, despite the efforts of some studios.
There had been many attempts during that time, one Baldur’s Gate-Style game, including Larian’s own Divinity: original sin. The studio had tried and failed to get the rights Dungeons after introducing their game to their creators, Wizards of the Coast. That didn’t stop Larian Studios. The maker of the tabletop role-playing game was impressed with what they saw in the development of the sequel to Deity. It was after the release of Divinity: Original Sin II that the goalkeeper of Dungeons were won.
Baldur’s Gate 3rd was officially unveiled by Google Stadia at the 2019 Summer Show, and since then the news has been coming out slowly. Larian and Google said earlier in the year that the game would initially be released as early access. The fans of the series had been waiting for a third game for years, and it seems that their patience doesn’t have to last too long.
