How to choose a new iPad
There are currently four different Apple iPad models on the market that cover a fairly wide range of price points. However, they’re generally pretty affordable (at least compared to other Apple devices like the iPhone). If money doesn’t matter, your budget is probably the most important factor where the iPad is right for you.
The standard iPad is the cheapest and it is also our constant favorite and the one we recommend to most people. The new Refresh 2020 features a 10.2-inch retina touchscreen – a half-inch enlargement over the last-generation 9.7-inch model thanks to slimmed-down bezels – and since it is already the cheapest and is often on sale this is unlikely to save much by opting for a last generation iPad. The new iPad also has a Smart Connector that allows you to connect it directly to a smart keyboard. This should be taken into account if you want to use it as a 2-in-1 laptop.
Next up are the iPad Mini and iPad Air. With a 7.9-inch retina touch display, the iPad Mini is obviously designed for portability. If you want the smallest iPad available, the Mini is the one. The latest generation iPad Air has a 10.5-inch retina touchscreen and is similar in size and performance to previous iPad Pro generations, but at a much cheaper price. The Air is a great mid-range option between the standard iPad and the iPad Pro if you’re looking for an upgrade but still want to spend less than $ 600.
The iPad Pro is the premium member of the Apple tablet family and is available in two sizes: 11 inches and 12.9 inches. It was updated this year, but the last generation models for 2018 are still floating around and are a little cheaper if you want to save some money and can’t find a deal on the newer models. Retailers also often offer deals for these slightly older units when trying to clear out old stocks. The iPad Pro has the largest displays and the best hardware in the range. This makes it a particularly good choice for those who want to use their tablet with a keyboard for an extended period of time.
