Borderlands 3 gets a free upgrade for PS5 and Xbox Series X – and a split screen for four players

Border areas 3 is the latest game to take on an encouraging trend – giving gamers a next generation upgrade without having to pay for it – and in this case, it’s one that console gamers with 4K TVs will appreciate.

The image above (and embedded in the tweet below) has all the details, but in case you can’t see the fine print, the main news is this: the game now runs at 4K resolution on PS5 and Xbox Series X with 60 images per second are both higher and more fluid than any console Border areas 3 today.

Last year, Digital foundry Even PS4 Pro and Xbox One X only managed to get the game running at 3200 x 1

800 and 30 fps or 1080p at 60 fps, so you’re either sacrificing resolution or a fluid frame rate and the performance wasn’t necessarily consistent even then – a real 4K60 campaign could make all the difference.

The gear, of course, doesn’t make the same promise to potential owners of the cheaper $ 300 Xbox Series S, as this console generally targets 1440p resolutions rather than 4K. The other news today is a brand new split screen mode that supports 3 or 4 players on the same TV and allows you to take three friends with you to play on a single console. This comes on the Xbox Series S as well as the X and both PlayStation 5 models.

And if you’re planning on continuing to ride a current-gen PS4 or Xbox One, you’re getting a consolation prize too: you’ll soon be able to split your current two-player split-screen mode vertically instead of horizontally to potentially get a better view of the bleak one Sky of the game.

Other games get free next generation upgrades: The Witcher 3, Fate 2, and Dead in daylight, and – on Xbox anyway – any game that signs up for Microsoft’s Smart Delivery program, including Assassin’s Creed Valhalla and Cyberpunk 2077. Some of the games that require you to pay include: Call of Duty Black Ops: Cold War, control and apparently NBA 2K21.
