It was only a matter of time before this happened and now it's official. Most new homes in California now have solar panels on their roofs. This is the first building law of its kind approved this week by the Building Standards Commission. However, there are some exceptions, but the code will apply to most of the state's new homes.
Some have expressed concerns as to whether this could lead to a further increase in land prices, but this does not offer significant energy savings. However, some estimates suggest that homeowners could save as much as $ 60,000 over the past 25 years while reducing grid load.
As already mentioned, this is the first building code of this kind in the United States. It could serve as a blueprint for similar initiatives being taken by other states. However, it will soon be how soon other states follow suit.
