Good news first, “I believe we will have a vaccine that will be available later this year, early next year,” Fauci told Mitchell.
He noted that vaccine development was only the first, albeit large, step.
“If you mobilize the distribution of vaccinations and get the majority or more of the population vaccinated and protected, it probably won’t happen until mid or late 2021,” Fauci said.
Mitchell asked Fauci for his answer to a previous question about when the country could “go back to normal”, especially if he went to indoor closed cinemas with impunity. That’s still a long way off, answered Fauci.
“If you talk about returning to a level of normalcy similar to pre-COVID, it will go well into 2021, maybe even towards the end of 2021,” Fauci said.
