At the same time, Unity defends herself. And it is said that Improbable (and now Epic) is misidentifying the developer threat.

Unity developers are not in legal limbo

In their blog, Epic and the Unlikely claim that Unity developers could face legal consequences if their game is running SpatialOS.

"The recent changes to Unity's Terms of Use have raised concerns among developers that they will be free to choose between engines, middleware SDKs, stores and cloud service providers in the future," write Sweeney and Narual. "Worse, it has left some live and in-game development in the legal limbo."

But Unity has already rejected the claim that developers put any developer in a legal limbo.

Of course this brings with it other problems for developers. This means they either have to run their multiplayer services themselves or work with a proven partner. The current list of authorized Unity platforms is small: Genvid, Hatch, Mixer and PlayStation Now.
