Another rumor is currently circulating that Final Fantasy 16 could be announced later this week during Sony’s upcoming PS5 showcase.
The latest rumor surfaced Reddit (via PushSquare) after Square Enix game maker Shinji Hashimoto posted a tweet in response to the PS5 showcase news. The tweet was quickly deleted, but a screenshot of the original tweet can still be seen on Imgur.
Of course, this might not have an impact at all and might just be Hashimoto expressing his excitement over the storefront, but fans are speculating on whether this indicates Square Enix’s involvement in the upcoming event. This latest tweet follows the recent discovery of a Twitter account for Final Fantasy 1
Sony announced the PS5 event, slated to take place a few days ago on September 16, and revealed in an official blog post that the storefront is expected to run for around 40 minutes with updates on upcoming PS5 games. The games to be shown will come from its worldwide studios as well as its development partners, which could include Spider-Man: Miles Morales and Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart, among others.
There are other previously announced games that may show up and of course Sony could finally announce the PS5 price and release date, but there are sure to be some surprises too. Interestingly, we know that Square Enix is currently working on a new next generation action game with the working title Project Athia – could this actually be Final Fantasy 16?
Whether we see any kind of Final Fantasy 16 The official reveal or teaser remains to be seen, but it doesn’t seem entirely out of the realm of possibility. The next installment in the Final Fantasy franchise has likely been in the works for some time, and it would make sense to see it land on the next generation console. While none of these rumors are exactly specific – and it’s best to take everything with a pinch of salt – it will be interesting to see if we can finally get any news about the next adventure.
In other PS5 news, a new one The Godfall battle trailer shows more 4K gameplay on PS5.
