After a long delay Final Fantasy XIV Patch 5.3 is on the horizon. The Shadowbringers The quests of the main scenarios are close to the grand finale. So expect a lot of storyline development and likely a major character death (or two) as the game begins to tie its loose ends and slowly solve new puzzles that should lead to the unknown expansion over the next year.
As with any previous patch, the path to unlocking new content can be blurred. There is a lot to do and lots of prerequisite quests to complete to get to the new things. To make things a little easier, we’ve prepared this cheat sheet. Use it as a quick reference to keep up to date, complete any remaining quests that keep you from doing the new things, and otherwise get a refresher on what has happened since 5.2 hit the servers earlier this year .
Main scenario for unlocking the quest ̵
1; FFXIV patch 5.3 MSQ
- search: On behalf of the suite lighting manager, The Crystarium (Coords = X: 12.5 / Y: 16.2)
- requirement: Echoes of a Fallen Star (5.2 Main Story Quest)
Shadowbringers introduced one of the best bows in the game. As we near the finale, the major Patch 5.3 main story quests are expected to be some of the most important parts of story development since the expansion began. The revelations of Hydaelyn and Zodiark’s place in the world have already shaken the long history of the game to the core, and at 5.2 the idea of the echo, our character’s strong spiritual connection to the light of the world, will soon be turned upside down unzip.
To begin with the new story content of the patch, you should have completed the 5.2 quest line that started with Old Enemies, New Threats at The Rising Stones and ended with Echoes of a Fallen Star. When you have these on your completed quest log, you’re good to go.
Fortunately, under the Main Scenario tab somewhere in your user interface, you should know exactly where you are and what to do next. What is new in this case, however, is the need to complete the entire Crystal Tower quest line. This is the 24 man raid content from A reborn empire. If for some reason you haven’t visited this magical place, you will want to grab the Legacy of Allag quest in Mor Dhona.
The Heroes’ Gauntlet Unlock Quest Location – FFXIV Patch 5.3 Dungeon
- search: Unknown (5.3 main story quest)
- requirement: Unknown (5.3 main story quest)
For better or for worse, all of Norvrandt has become a battlefield through which our warriors of darkness must now fight. As with all previous ones Shadowbringers Dungeons, this is tied to the main storyline. That means that unlocking The Heroes’ Gauntlet should come naturally as you progress through the new quests for the main scenario.
The Dolls’ Bunker: NieR Raid Quest Unlock Location – FFXIV Patch 5.3 Raid
- search: We can rebuild them – Dig Site Chief, Kholusia (Coords = X: 34.7 / 18.2))
- requirement: One way to do this – Anogg, excavation tunnel (Coordinates = X: 5.8, Y: 4.7)
The continuation of the NieR: machines Crossover raid from the series heads Yosuke Saito and Yoko Taro is a highlight of patch 5.3. The unlocking method for these is a little more complicated than previous 24-man raids, largely due to the quest line that progressed slightly in the last even-numbered patch. This is practically unknown in the long history of MMO updates.
Unless you quickly flown through the two YoRHa: Dark Apocalypse quests from Patch 5.2 (starting with Carnival and Confrontations and ending with One Way to Do It), you won’t be unlocking the second attack, The Puppets’ Bunker, quite that quickly like all others.
Once these missions are completed, you can move on to the quest chain to unlock the heist by picking up the “We Can Rebuild It” quest from the Dig Site Chief in Kholusia.
Unlock Sapphire Weapon Quest location – FFXIV Patch 5.3 trial version
- search: Sleep in Sapphire Now – Resistance Officer, The Lochs (X: 11.3 / Y: 22.5)
- requirement: Ruby Doomsday – Resistance Officer, The Lochs (Coordinates = X: 36 / Y: 31)
The side quest trial version of this patch is Sapphire Weapon, a machine that has been torn to pieces Final Fantasy VII before the players could take it. It continues the weapon quest chain that Ruby Weapon launched earlier this year. So expect a pretty difficult fight once you unlock Minstreling Wanderer’s extreme mode in the Crystarium.
Given the potential first real appearance of Sapphire Weapon for one of the abandoned Final Fantasy XV DLC stories, his appearance in Final Fantasy XIV Patch 5.3 marks the first time that players can fight the machine in a main game.
Unlock Shiva Unreal Quest Location – FFXIV Patch 5.3
- search: Fantastic Mr. Faux – Painfully Ishgardian Man, Idyllshire (X: 7.0 / Y: 5.9)
- requirement: Shadowbringers (5.0 MSQ) and keeping up with the Aliapohs (Unctuous Adventurer, Idyllshire (Coords = X: 7.0 / Y: 5.9))
Shiva is back. Once again. So soon after her redesign in the 5.2 Eden’s Verse Battle, Shiva will be the first Legacy Battle to receive the new Unreal difficulty treatment. Given all the new skills we’ve gained since the level 50 cap, it should be a fun way for veterans to see a classic fight in a new light.
There’s little information about where exactly Unreal lies on the current difficulty level, but the general idea seems to be a retuned fight that should give newbies a chance to see how the fight played out before three gear upgrades quickly got it going and just did pony farm.
Unreal Trials is a new weekly activity designed to breathe new life into Wanderer’s Tales. So you must have completed the “Keeping Up With the Aliapohs” quest to get started.
New Custom Deliveries Unlock Quest Location – FFXIV Patch 5.3
- search: O craftsmen, my craftsmen – Ehll Tou, the firmament (coordinates = X: 13.5 / Y: 11.2)
- requirement: If songs had wings – Ehll Tou, The Firmament (coordinates = X15.5 / Y11.4) – Go west, artisans (Lydirlona, Mor Dhona (coordinates = X: 22 / Y: 6)
Ehll Tou, a curious little dragon, has started accepting special deliveries to help restore Ishgard. As always, both artisans and collectors can take part in the activity, with appropriate scripts and generous experience points being given out to those who help.
As part of the “Ishgardian Restoration” quest series, you must have gone through the sequel to 5.21 in order to unlock Ehll Tou as a delivery recipient.
Dwarf Beast Tribes Unlock Quest Location – FFXIV Patch 5.3
- search: It’s dwarven time – sociable city dwarf, Kholusia (coordinates = X15.7 / 30.3)
- requirement: Ronitt to the rescue – Ronnit, Kholusia (coordinates = X: 13.5 / Y: 8.1)
One quick thing to note here is that the Final Fantasy XIV The development team doesn’t consider the first’s answer to potato-shaped lalafell to be beasts in the traditional sense of the game, but simply refers to these dwarf versions as tribal quests. It’s a first for the game and a big leap for equality!
These new tribal quests focus on artisans. So if you’ve already blown the Crystarium quests to get your first handyman to 80 quickly, here’s a solid backup plan. You’ll have to go through the dizzying chain of events the dwarves have before unlocking them, but once you’ve managed to unlock those Never Raids a few patches ago, you’re probably good to go. If not, check out the raid section above.
