Forbidden West will all be released on PS4 • Eurogamer.net

In a surprise announcement, not featured on PlayStation 5’s main show today, Sony has confirmed that a trio of its high-profile exclusives will indeed be gen-spanning.

Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales, Sackboy A Big Adventure and Horizon Forbidden West will also be released on PS4, according to the PlayStation blog.

If you have the digital version of these games on PS4, you will receive a free upgrade to the PS5 version. If you have a disc version, get a free upgrade if you have the PS5 console with a disc drive.

Sony previously said it “believed in generations” and is trying to make a clear distinction with the next-gen versions of its exclusive first-party games as opposed to those made elsewhere as cross-gen games.

“We have always said that we believe in generations,”

; said PlayStation boss Jim Ryan earlier this year. “We believe that if you put the effort into creating a next-generation console, it should have features and benefits that the previous generation didn’t.”

So it’s a surprise to hear that these three games are cross-generational – especially Horizon Forbidden West, which won’t start in 2020.

An additional fold is Spider-Man: Miles Morales, which will offer a second “Ultimate Edition” for PlayStation 5, including the original Marvel’s Spider-Man and all of its DLC in one remastered package.

“The remaster for the PS5 is not an easy upgrade as many of the game’s art pieces have been fully updated to take advantage of the power of the PS5 console. You see better-looking characters with improved skin, eyes, hair, and facial animation (including our new Peter Next Generation Parker).

“You’ll also see ray traces and ambient shadows, improved lighting, more pedestrians and vehicles stretching further into the distance, and the same optional performance mode offered for Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales so you can finally play the game with a targeted frame rate of 60 fps.

“We’ll be supporting near-instant loading, 3D audio, and the haptic feedback from the DualSense controller. Lastly, we’re adding three amazing new Spider-Man suits, new features in Photo mode, and even new trophies for those of you who are looking for platinum Play all over again. “

It is currently unclear if you can upgrade from PlayStation 4 to this upgrade if you have Miles Morales and / or the original Spider-Man there.
