Apex Legends continues to grow.
Industrial giants Electronic Arts' new video game caught the eye of online gamers as it adopts one of the world's most popular games, Epic's. Like Fortnite, Apex Legends can be downloaded for free and is the last Battle Royale title.
And Apex Legends seems to grow fast. Last week, the company said the gamein the first 72 hours since the game started. Now there are 25 million players.
"Since launching Apex Legends last Monday, we have witnessed the creation of an Apex Legends community that is thrilled, thriving, and filled with great feedback and ideas," wrote Vince Zampella in a blog post. (Zampella is head of Respawn Entertainment, which made Apex Legends andTitanfall.) "Our goal is to build this game together with you, our community, so give us your feedback, because we really listen. "
EA's success with Apex Legends means Fortunite, which counted 200 million players in. (Epic did not immediately respond to a request for updated numbers.) These millions of players have made Fortnite a cultural phenomenon played by celebrities, musicians, and sports stars.
The number of players is not the only sign of the success of Apex Legends. Shortly after Monday's announcement, Apex Legends players in the popular Twitch streaming service played nearly three times as many as Fortnite and even more than other popular streaming games like League of Legends.
"The game has a phenomenal start," wrote Wedbush Securities Analyst Michael Pachter last week in a notice to investors. Although EA's financial earnings have been disappointing in the recent holiday season (partly because of Fortnite's popularity), Pachter expects Apex Legends to contribute $ 100 million to EA's revenue over the next fiscal year.
