Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited or BSNL recently launched its IPTV or Internet Protocol Television service in Kerala Circle. In western countries like the United States, the IPTV service is very popular among users. Even in Canada, many people are familiar with the IPTV service, but in India the technology is still in its infancy. We only have a handful of players like Fastway Transmission and BSNL that provide IPTV services in the country.
At the end of August, BSNL launched its own IPTV service in its largest telecommunications network – Kerala. The company recently unveiled the IPTV packages, which start at 1500 rupees per month. In order to be able to offer IPTV, the operators must also have broadband services. Thanks to BSNL’s Bharat Fiber services, the telecommunications company can offer IPTV services in selected cities such as Ernakulam, Alappuzha and Thrissur.
BSNL will provide television channels and they can be used in both free-to-air and pay-TV channels. The BSNL IPTV service is currently limited to the Kerala county only, but Telecom is taking registrations for launch across India. BSNL users in the above regions with a Bharat fiber connection can apply for the IPTV service through the company’s website.
The process is very simple. However, the website (https://fms.bsnl.in/iptvreg) is currently unavailable due to unknown issues. BSNL promises to expand the service to other regions shortly. We may be able to see the BSNL IPTV service in regions where the company has a Bharat Fiber service.
BSNL users can access the IPTV service through a dedicated application for smart TV, mobile phone and Android streaming devices. It has been said that the BSNL IPTV service can be activated and accessed by the user without a dedicated set top box (STB).
