Garmin Forerunner 745 with exaggerated tracking capabilities

Garmin today announced the Forerunner 745 GPS Smartwatch, the successor to the Forerunner 735XT. These days, Garmin makes smartwatches and fitness trackers for many different segments, but like the 735XT, the Forerunner 745 appears to be precisely geared towards athletes who need a higher level of fitness tracking. In particular, the 745 has workout tracking capabilities for running, cycling, and swimming.

Garmin said today that the Forerunner 745 uses Firstbeat Analytics monitoring to track things like V02 max, exercise load, aerobic and anaerobic exercise effects, which the watch uses to make running and cycling exercise suggestions. Runners who have one of Garmin’s Running Dynamics Pods or a heart rate belt compatible with the Forerunner 745 can also track things like cadence and stride length and give them specific information about their training.

This type of focus on exercise metrics is also present in cycling and swimming, as the watch can track things like left and right balance or the time you sit and stand on a bike, or metrics like distance and stroke while swimming. When the workout is finished, Garmin says the watch will recommend how long to recover, and that things like sleep and stress are taken into account when setting that recovery time as well.

As you would expect, the Forerunner 745 can be connected to the Garmin Connect app to download or schedule courses through the course creator. However, the watch can also be integrated into other training apps. The watch also offers enough space on board for around 500 songs, supports Garmin Pay, can track sleep and menstrual cycles and supports LiveTrack so that you can tell others where you are during your workout. Garmin says the watch should last about a week on a full charge, but it will reduce battery life to 16 hours in GPS mode and 6 hours in GPS mode with music.

So if you need a watch that can accurately track a wide variety of workouts, the Forerunner 745 seems like a great choice, but all of these features will cost you. Garmin has offered the Forerunner 745 at a price of $ 499.99 and is launching it in black, neo-tropic, magma red, and white stone. The Forerunner 745 is available now.
