According to a report, Gmail may get a new logo soon. This seems to be part of Google’s bigger plan to give Gmail a makeover. Further changes are also planned. This follows the recent integration of Gmail with Google Meet and Google Chat, suggesting that Gmail should no longer be just an email platform. The new In-the-Works logo has an “M” but does not specifically have the traditional envelope.
According to a report by 9to5Google, Google sent an image to the organization indicating that it was working on a new logo for Gmail. Instead of explicitly showing the envelope icon, the new logo just implies the envelope shape through the space above and below. The outer corners of the symbol look rounder than before.
Google has turned away from marketing Gmail as a pure email platform. The recent integration of Google Meet is one such step. The new logo seems like another step in moving away from the Gmail association as a pure email platform.
The image of the new Gmail logo in the works is an uncolored engineering drawing. According to the report, Gmail will incorporate the similar colors of blue, green, yellow and red into the new logo, thanks to similar steps with other Google services, instead of the red and white color scheme currently used in Gmail. With Gmail and Google Meet integrated in July, users can join video conferencing directly from a dedicated Meet tab in their Gmail app. The Meetings tab has also been integrated into the web version of Gmail. Gmail has also been integrated with Google Chat and Rooms.
