Google Stadia works with this custom browser on iOS

Google Stadia offers one of the best gaming streaming experiences today, but like GeForce Now and Xbox Game Pass, Apple is making it extraordinarily difficult to get Stadia on the App Store. Fortunately, there might be a way through the web. A custom browser app allows you to get Stadia up and running on iOS in minutes.

If you’ve been keeping an eye on Stadia fans for the past few weeks, you may know that iOS 14 makes it possible to run Stadia from an iOS web browser. If you trick the user agent and switch to the Stadia web app, you can play games on an iPhone or iPad. It’s just … well, it’s a pain in the butt.

Fortunately, someone came up with a way to make this process easier. Reddit users u / zmknox It took the time to create a custom browser that fully supports the App Store but allows users to run Google Stadia with ease. Just download “Stadium”

; from the App Store and you get a very basic browser that does two things.

First, Stadium runs full screen, which means you don’t have any browser UI elements to get in the way of a Stadia game. Stadium can also define a custom user agent that users can use to “entice” Stadia to work. The app also enables the use of a game controller with “supported” websites. u / zmknox explains the setup process below:

  • Set the primary url to https://stadia.google.com/home
  • Set up the user agent Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; Intel Mac OS X 10_15_5) AppleWebKit/537.36 (KHTML, like Gecko) Chrome/85.0.4183.83 Safari/537.36
  • From the… menu, select Authenticate and visit https://accounts.google.com/
  • After signing in to your Google account, tap Done. You may also need to select “Go Home” from the… menu.
  • That’s it! Every time you start the stadium you will be taken straight to the Stadia landing page.

How does it work? Once set up properly, it works pretty well! I was able to get this working on my iPad Pro in just a few minutes, and with a paired PS4 controller I didn’t notice any lag issues with Orcs Must Die 3. It’s worth noting that Stadia can’t tell which controller you’re using with it but I’m sure most people can get around this.

However, this trick may not last forever which is unfortunate as it works pretty well! The good news? Based on a recent Apple changelog, official support for Stadia appears to be relatively tight. We just have to wait and see. In the meantime, this is an excellent stopgap that won’t cost you a dime.
