Ikea and Republic of Gamers (ROG), Asus’ line of PC gaming hardware and accessories, will launch a new, affordable line of gaming furniture and accessories. The two companies plan to deliver around 30 products in China from February 2021. Other Ikea markets will receive the items after October 2021.
So far, no details have been released about what type of furniture or accessories are known. Given that ROG primarily contains PC gaming accessories and other related hardware, it might be a good bet that Ikea and ROG’s collaborative gaming line is more geared towards PC gaming items.
The new gaming line will be led by the Ikea Product Development Center in Shanghai. Ikea and ROG emphasize that as part of the design process, employees from both companies held workshops with professional gamers and other people who love games.
Ewa Rychert, global head of the work area, said Ikea hopes to create a line that highlights the positive benefits of gaming and the ways it improves home life. “There are many conventions in place about gaming that are often stereotypical or negative. For example, all games are based on violence, gaming is anti-social and it is mostly a male activity,”
“In fact, numbers show that gaming is one of the truly cross-demographic activities that can improve a person’s mental health and general well-being. It is a source of relaxation, independence, and fun. By playing, people develop skills within the problem Solving, teamwork and communication. Playing games also offers a new way to connect with others, which has become even more important recently, to feel connected remotely. We hope the new series of games will help to harness and enable the benefits of gaming in home life. “
