IMDB has launched a free streaming service called Freedive, which offers dozens of movies and TV shows. And although there are no new releases, the selection is not bad, with films like Drive Adaptation Gattaca True Romance Last Action Hero Legends of the Fall and Panic Room as well as television programs such as Fringe, Quantum Leap, Gilligan's Island, Heroes, and The Bachelor.
Freedive viewers can watch movies and TV shows on their computer desktop or on Amazon devices like Fire TV, even though the content is only ad-supported. IMDB, which was founded as a fan site but has been owned by Amazon since 1998, says a mobile app will soon hit the market.
said the founder and CEO of IMDB in a statement. "With the launch of IMDb Freedive, you can now watch full-length movies and TV on IMDb and all Amazon Fire TV sets for free. We will continue to improve and make available IMDb Freedive based on customer feedback, including IMDb's premier mobile apps.
The service also appears to be a means to better publicize a larger number of IMDB's original videos from which you've probably never heard of. Fortunately, the service does not require a subscription.
One good thing about the service that sets it apart from others is that in each category, the best rated movies are displayed first. As IMDB notes, many people use IMDB rankings to determine if a movie is good or not, and it's a great way to scroll through movies to see what you like.
Freedive is currently available only in the US It is not clear if there are any plans to launch internationally.
If you have not seen Last Action Hero for a long time, now is your chance. Serious. It's a great movie. And if you think I'm joking, look at it again. I guarantee that it is better than you remember.
