Instacart, the grocery delivery service, was overwhelmed with orders during the Coronavirus Pandemic causing many users to be unable to schedule deliveries. The company added two new features to speed up the service and open more delivery windows.

"Fast & Flexible" and "Order Ahead" are now available in the Instacart app, according to a release on Wednesday. The first function, Fast & Flexible, assigns a customer's order to the first available buyer within a certain date range, instead of requesting a specific delivery window. With Order Ahead, users can choose a delivery date of up to two weeks instead of just seven days.

Instacart also found that the number of buyers had increased from 200,000 to 350,000 in order to meet the more than 300% increase in demand. These workers went on strike in late March over wage and security concerns over COVID-19 . The company informed buyers on March 31 of a warning of the disease because a worker did a positive test on it.
