Main features of iOS 14

Widgets

Apple has made some major changes to widgets with its new iOS version. Redesigned widgets with data-rich improvements offer benefits for various activities. From weather widgets to music, and from clock widgets to podcasts, there are revamped shapes and sizes that can be converted into a batch of up to 10. Smart Stack offers a suggestion for using widgets based on time, while Siri takes a different usage-based pattern of widgets to suggest how to perform functions without opening the apps.

App library

Apple added this feature which allows apps to be automatically sorted and placed in different app libraries based on their genre. These libraries will be displayed at the bottom of the home screen, while they will also include the tag of recently downloaded or added libraries. You also have a search bar and an alphabetical order of the apps, as well as suggestions on how to use those apps based on time, location, and activity.

Translate app

From now on, Apple users no longer need to use Google Translate as iOS 14 comes with a built-in Apple translation app. This works in landscape mode while the screen is split to show translation results, and can also allow for smooth translation in offline mode with downloaded languages. The most innovative feature is voice translation, which allows the voice to be translated online into selected languages. Translate currently only supports 11 languages including Mandarin, Spanish and French.

Messages

iOS 14 also enables a pinned conversation feature that lets you pin favorite messages for later reference. It allows a maximum of nine pinned messages through the app that can be synced across all Apple devices. The direct reply function in a group conversation when tagging a person makes chit chats more engaging. This also enables the group’s customization feature so that messages are only received when the name is mentioned.

Compact user interface

Phone calls and face calls are now displayed in banners instead of taking up the entire screen. This leaves plenty of room for other activities that can be performed while participating in a call. With the picture-in-picture feature, you can now face-call while watching a video or simply listen to the audio by dragging it from the screen. Easily resized and dragged to any corner of the screen.
