Jack Dorsey is summoned by the Senate after blocking NY Post articles

The Senate Judiciary Committee plans to summon Twitter’s CEO Jack Dorsey today after controversy over blocking links to two New York Post Article about presidential candidate Joe Biden. Republican senators are calling on Dorsey to testify on October 23, calling his decision “electoral influence”. The message was first reported by The Wall Street Journal.

The New York Post Articles contain email correspondence allegedly from Hunter Biden, Joe Biden’s son. They claim to show that Hunter Biden introduced his father to a senior executive at the Ukrainian energy company Burisma. In President Trump̵

7;s campaign, Joe Biden’s alleged links with Ukraine were used as the basis for repeated political attacks.

Twitter has blocked users from sharing links to the articles, under a policy against the dissemination of hacked information. “The policy established in 2018 prohibits the use of our service to distribute content obtained without permission,” the company tweeted. “We don’t want to encourage hacking by letting Twitter be used to distribute material that may be illegally obtained.”

Facebook took a less extreme approach and reduced the reach of the pieces while they were fact-checked by the platform’s partners.

The decision to limit the circulation of two research articles, particularly articles authored by a national outlet, was unusual and sparked long-standing conservative concerns about bias and social media censorship.

At a rally in North Carolina, President Donald Trump threatened to graze the major tech platforms protecting Section 230 in retaliation for his decision to limit the spread of the posts. This law allows companies like Twitter to moderate content without being legally held responsible for objectionable posts, although the first change may be a more relevant safeguard to Twitter’s specific situation.

The Biden campaign denies that post Office reports, citing Trump confidante Rudy Giuliani’s previous connections to a suspected Russian agent accused of meddling in the elections.

“The New York Post I never asked the Biden campaign about the critical elements of this story, “said spokesman Andrew Bates in a statement The Wall Street Journal. “You certainly never mentioned that Rudy Giuliani – widely reported on his discredited conspiracy theories and alliance with people connected to Russian intelligence – claimed to have such materials.”

“In addition, we checked Joe Biden’s official schedules from the time and from no meeting like the one New York Postever happened, ”said Bates.

Twitter declined to comment.
