With Joe Biden runs for US President, NBC’s live sketch comedy series Saturday night live needs a celebrity to play it. Actor comedian Jim Carrey got the role, announced Saturday Night Live on Wednesday.

“There was some interest on his part, and then we obviously responded positively,” SNL producer Lorne Michaels told Vulture. “But it came down to discussions about what the setting was. It’ll give energy and strength to the part, and hopefully it’s fun.”

Previous celebrities who played the former vice president included Jason Sudeikis, Kevin Nealon, John Mulaney and most recently actor Woody Harrelson.

SNL will also kick off the new season with five consecutive shows on October 3rd, 10th, 17th, 24th and 31st. This is the first time in the show’s long history that there are so many consecutive episodes.

“I made the decision early on … that we would do something that we hadn’t done before, five shows in a row,” said Michaels. “Because there are four debates and then it’s Halloween and it’s the weekend before the election. And if the election is extended, unfortunately we’re going to do six or seven shows in a row.”

The show announced that too three new comedians – Lauren Holt, Punkie Johnson and Andrew Dismukes – have been added to the cast for the new season. Meet her here.

In accordance with social distancing protocol, the show will also have a limited studio audience at the Rockefeller Center in New York City and will “work closely with Governor Cuomo’s team”.
