LG officially launched its new “Wing” smartphone in a live stream today after weeks of leaked videos and multiple teasers. The recorded event lasted over an hour, so it’s not surprising that a teaser for a new pull-out device ended up going unnoticed by most people.

The end of the live stream shows an animation of what looks like a phone slips outwards. Very few details are visible, so it̵

7;s not clear if the area that slips out is a keyboard (possibly for those mourning the death of TCL’s BlackBerry phones), a concealed display, or something else entirely. I suspect an Xperia Play style gamepad is off the table because there is very little space between the sliding component and the outer shell.

The teaser is reminiscent of the LG G5, which has a detachable chin for accessing the battery compartment and attaching “Friends” modules. LG said during the unveiling of the wing that it had developed several other phones under the “Explorer Project” banner, so the retractable device may be the next to hit the market.
