While the parent company Ford is demonstrating the all-electric Mustang Mach-E, Lincoln is expanding its range with a second plug-in hybrid (in addition to the Aviator Grand Touring). The Lincoln Corsair Grand Touring, unveiled at the Los Angeles Auto Show in 2019, will be available in summer 2020. Although it still has a petrol engine, the Grand Touring should improve the fuel efficiency of Lincoln's Baby Crossover without compromising performance.
The powertrain consists of a 2.5-liter Atkinson four-cylinder engine and two electric motors. One engine helps the engine to propel the front wheels while the other drives the rear wheels, creating the Corsair Grand Touring four-wheel drive. Note that the upcoming Ford Escape plug-in hybrid is likely to use a similar powertrain. The Corsair and the Escape share a platform, though Ford will not offer the all-wheel drive Escape plug-in hybrid.
The overall system performance is 266 horsepower, which is more than the standard 2.0-liter turbocharged four-wheel drive performance. Cylinder engine in petrol Corsair (250 hp), but less than the optional 2.3-liter Turbo-Four (295 hp). Lincoln expects the Corsair Grand Touring to reach a range of 40 kilometers only with electric drive. The Corsair can not compete with the 407-hp Volvo XC60 T8 plug-in hybrid, but the XC60 can only reach 27 kilometers. The upcoming BMW X3 xDrive30e will have an output of 292 hp and an electric range of 31
Despite the extra battery (Lincoln did not specify the size), the Grand Touring retains the Corsair's standard sliding seat bench in second row. The bench can be moved forwards or backwards by up to 15 cm, giving you more leg room in the back seat or more cargo space as needed. With Phone as Key, the driver can use his smartphone instead of a traditional key fob. A head-up display is also available. The standard driver assistance package Lincoln Co-Pilot360 includes autonomous emergency braking, blind spot monitoring, lane departure warning and automatic high beam. An adaptive cruise control, an evasive steering assistance and a parking aid are available as options.
The Lincoln Corsair Grand Touring will be available for sale in summer 2020. Prices will be announced closer to this time. Expect Grand Touring to outperform a fully loaded gasoline Corsair that can reach as high as $ 60,000 with all boxes ticked.
