The mighty Mercedes-AMG GT Black Series has sneaked to the top of the mega power charts in Australia. Today the local branch confirmed that it is now for sale and has hit the market as one of the best performing production cars ever offered here.
First, the power. Obviously. It comes from AMG’s widely used 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8, though it’s been forgotten. Between 6700 rpm and 6900 rpm it generates an incredible 537 kW. And between 2000 and 6000 rpm, 800 Nm are produced.
The engine has a flat crankshaft and two twin-scroll turbochargers with larger compressor wheels that deliver 1,100 kg of air per hour. Larger intercoolers as well as bespoke camshafts and redesigned exhaust manifolds are also installed.
Amazingly, and in some ways, all of this is routed through a rear-wheel drive system via a seven-speed, dual-clutch automatic transmission. A special ‘Torque Tube’ drive shaft made of carbon fiber delivers the bad news to the rear tires.
As you can probably imagine, the GT Black Series is built for the track and has some crazy aero parts to help with downforce. At the front there is a low-splitter system with two adjustable positions (Street and Race), a custom hood with special outlets and a massive two-stage wing at the rear. All of these parts are made from carbon fiber for ultimate lightness and strength.
An AMG coilover kit with fully adjustable settings, including height adjustment, also helps with handling. All of this has to do with the AMG Ride Control dampers. Drivers can choose from a variety of modes, including a new Sport Plus mode intended for track use only.
It’s not as sparse inside as it seems. There is a digital 12.3-inch instrument cluster with the display modes Classic, Sporty and Supersport as well as a 10.25-inch multimedia screen for on-board entertainment and for functions in the car.
The passengers are pampered with carbon bucket seats, while the cabin is decorated with nappa leather and sporty Dinamica microfiber in black with orange stitching. Special light door panels with race-like loop handles and a unique instrument panel are available.
Mercedes-Benz Australia confirms that the AMG GT Black Series can be ordered immediately at a price of $ 796,900 (excluding road costs). Deliveries are scheduled to begin in the second quarter of 2021. Unfortunately only 28 copies are being shipped to the local shores and all of them are sold out.
