After this several DelaysDisney has finally decided on a release strategy for its mega-budget remake Mulan. The film will be released on Disney + on September 4, but will cost subscribers an additional $ 29.99.
This was one of the biggest pieces of news during the company’s recent earnings call, which also revealed that the company lost $ 3.5 billion in its parking division due to coronavirus occlusions. Such numbers certainly explain why the company chose such an unconventional path Mulan, the live action remake by Niki Caro which was originally planned for March. Previously, Disney had canceled the theatrical release Artemis Fowl, Hamilton, and The only Ivan and moved them to his streaming service, but these were all included in the subscription fee. Not Mulan.
Mulan, which will also be available on Disney + in Australia, Canada, New Zealand and several Western European countries are following in the footsteps of other recently released movie releases that have been canceled and switched directly to premium on-demand like Universal’s Trolls World Tour or Warner Bros. Scoob. The difference, however, is that these titles were on multiple platforms. Disney’s news makes it sound like this Mulan will only be available to Disney + subscribers. (The company said the film will also open in theaters around the world in September.)
Can fans expect similar fates for other upcoming Disney films as expected? Black widow? We will see. Bob Chapek, CEO of Disney, described the decision as “one-off”, but suggested how Mulan Financial performance will be a key factor in this type of decision.
“We are watching Mulan as unique, as opposed to trying to say that there is a new store window model that we’re looking at, ”he said. “Nevertheless, we find it very interesting to be able to offer and learn from a new offer … for consumers at this price of $ 29.99.”
On the call, Disney also confirmed the second season of The Mandalorian remains on track for an October debut but did not offer updated should have been released soon Disney + Marvel series. “It is such a priority that we hope this will come soon,” was all Chapek said about the shows.
