Netflix's The Witcher: Critics praise the first episodes

Netflix's adaptation of the fantasy book series The Witcher is almost here. The popular novels have already been adapted into a video game series and comic books, but some people have described the upcoming show as Netflix's response to Game of Thrones.

The Witcher tells the story of Geralt of Rivia, a monster hunter who kills mythical beasts for money. He is cynical and pragmatic, but Geralt reluctantly helps the needy when he travels the fictitious country of the continent.

It's still weeks from its premiere, but The Witcher received early praise from critics. Some were screened for the show, and one critic described what he had seen as a "masterful job."

"I admit, as a big fan of the books, I was a bit worried, but Lauren S. Hissrichm (Showrunner) has masterfully told this story," said Will Franklin on November 23. It also helps that the cast is fantastic! And Henry Cavill, just … wow.

When is the release date?

The program will air on December 20, according to the latest trailer released on October 31. On Sept. 11, the Witcher fansite Redandian Intelligence reported that they had found deleted tweets from Netflix's Twitter account in the Netherlands listed the premiere of the broadcast as 97 days away. This would have been the 17th of December – not so far away. A Netflix spokesperson told Video Game Chronicles on September 13 that the posts had been created by mistake and the launch date had not been confirmed.

The new trailer was released on October 31st during the Lucca Comics and Games Convention in Lucca, Italy. The cheater had several panels for the show, which featured the author of the books, Andrzej Sapkowski. Showrunner Lauren Hissrich; Anya Chalotra, who plays Yennefer; and Freya Allan, who plays Ciri.

Hissrich and executive producer Tomasz Baginski split the trailer into a video uploaded to Netflix's Italian YouTube channel on November 12th.

The two first explain one of the big themes of the show, namely the rebirth. They also confirmed that Cavill performs all his stunts and swordfights. A revelation in this video is the appearance of Gerard's bard friend Jaskier, who was dandelion in the US.

Production of the first season was officially discontinued in April. This is the result of social media contributions by actor Adam Levy, who plays Mousesack, and director Charlotte Brändström.

In May 2017, Netflix announced that it would turn the books into a series. Hissrich, the showrunner, was producer for Daredevil and Marvel's The Defenders.

The show is less than a month from their premiere, and Netflix revealed episode names on November 22, along with a brief description for each. (And yes, the list rhymes!)

Before the sorcerer's first season begins, Netflix has ordered a . second season of the show. Netflix tweeted about the November 13 serial renewal news that is well over a month away from the premiere.

Who plays in the series?

The main character of Geralt of Rivia is Superman himself, Henry Cavill. The actor has said he is a fan of the novels and video game series, notably The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. He told IGN in August 2018, when he applied Mission Impossible: Fallout, how much he wanted the role. He was selected for the job the following month.

In the October issue of the French magazine Bei Premiere, Cavill talked about his experiences on the set and his preference for the franchise. A Reddit user translated the interview in which the lead actor talked about how much he loved wearing the costume and wig on the set. He also described how he lived and breathed the sorcerer's universe before being used as the lead actor, and that he had prepared for the role long before the announcement of the show.

A new image of Cavill in the title role was released on September 28th on Twitter.

The other main characters in the series are Freya Allan (Into the Badlands) as Ciri and Anya Chalotra (Yenchefer). Ciri is the young princess of Cintra, one of the kingdoms in the world of The Witcher, and Yennefer is a sorceress who is Geralt's love interest and mother of Ciri.

Another important role for the series is Roach Gerard's horse and travel companion, which is popular with fans.

Hissrich said in an interview with Spanish video game magazine Hobby Consolas that Cavill had selected his horse for the show and that they had a "humorous relationship".

Some of the actors speak a new language created by David J. Peterson. He is known for creating the Dothraki and Valyrian languages ​​in Game of Thrones.

In the Italian newspaper Corriere della Sera appeared on October 23, a new series of attitudes of the characters. The pictures show more Cavill than Geralt, along with a new picture of Yennefer. There is also a shot of a monster trying to hold a woman's hand.

Who is the sorcerer?

The Polish author Andrzej Sapkowski wrote the first book in 1992 with Geralt with the English title Sword of Destiny. Both it and the follow-up, The Last Wish, were a series of short stories with the protagonist. Sapkowski then went on to write the five-book saga about Geralt and Ciri.

In the books, Geralt's job is that of a professional monster hunter known as a sorcerer. He was trained and experimented with the profession as a young child, whitening his skin and hair and giving him superhuman strength. Geralt is also versed in magic and sword fighting.

On his travels, Geralt killed all kinds of monsters at the right price. He has also shown compassion to those who need someone with his skills.

As far as the plot of the show is concerned, there is only minimal information from the trailer outside. Part of the casting script leaked on Reddit, but does not contain any plot spoilers. Hissrich tweeted in July, the goal for the end of the season is to make the audience cry.

Although the series does not adapt the Witcher video games, the stories told in the games are considered faithful stories of The Witcher Universe. The Witcher games are available on the PC, the Xbox One, the PS4 and a recently released Nintendo Switch version of The Witcher 3 .
