One of the most unusual and inspiring games of the early 2010s was The Stanley Parable an interactive run simulator created as a mod for Half-Life 2 . If you played the game when it was first released in 2011, or when it was released in 2012 on Steam Greenlight or 2013 for Windows, you probably still remember it – it was totally original and never came different game. It was a nod in our list of the best Steam games and a nomination for our 2013 game. Unfortunately, for console users, the game was only available to the PC.
Now, seven years later, The Stanley Parable is back with an emerging Ultra Deluxe Edition that includes new content and will be available both on consoles and on the PC. The developers have not announced on which consoles the game will be available, but it will probably be available on the Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and possibly also on the Wii U.
If you've never played original game, it's hard to describe the plot without spoiling it. But believe us, it takes what you know about how games work, and twists this concept to invite you into a storytelling, agency, and decision story. The original game was quite short and ran between 30 minutes and a few hours of play, depending on how fast you moved. However, there were several endings, so you could play it again and again and always find something new. In a typical style, the developers Crows Crows Crows humorously announced the release of the Deluxe Edition: "When The Stanley Parable came out, many people asked us for more endings and more content. We told them that they did not need more content, that it was alright, as it was, that it already had the perfect number of ends. What a hell of a lie it was. "
The Ultra Deluxe version of the game will include new content and new endings, making it an extension of the original game. This new content should also be quite a bit – according to the developer website: "Overall, the new script is so large that it accounts for about half the length of the script." The game will be available sometime in 2019, though an exact release date not yet known.
