From the NBA to FC Barcelona, Nike attracts some of the world's biggest athletes – and now the company is focusing on gaming. Today, Nike and the League of Legends announced China's largest e-sports competition, a contract that would make Nike the official apparel supplier to the League. This includes clothing, sneakers and finally team jerseys. The LPL says the first kits designed by Nike will be unveiled during the League of Legends World Cup in Paris later this year. The deal runs through the 2022 season.

The deal with Nike is a milestone in e-sports. While companies such as Champion and K-Swiss have signed apparel agreements with individual teams and players in the past, this is the first league agreement with a major athletics manufacturer. But as the e-sports leagues continue to emulate their peers in traditional sports, we will probably continue to do so in the future, especially as teams like 100 Thieves make clothing a big part of their business.
"Our unparalleled partnership with Nike will enable LPL teams and players to continue to shine on the world stage," said Leo Lin, co-CEO of LPL operator TJ Sports, in a statement. "E-sports is a digital sport, and working with Nike will take it to new heights."
According to LPL, the partnership with Nike goes beyond jerseys and shoes. "Nike will also work with LPL teams and e-sports players to develop professional physical training programs," the league said.
