Nintendo unveils new amiibo

After today’s Nintendo Direct Mini Partner Showcase, a trio of new Amiibo were introduced that tie in with the release of Monster Hunter: Ascension. Monster Hunter: Ascension was one of two Monster Hunter games announced for Nintendo Switch during its presentation. The amiibo will contain three creatures from the upcoming game: Palamute, Palico and Magnamalo. Each of the three amiibo will unlock a special layered armor in the game. The figures are sold separately and will be available exclusively at GameStop from March 26, 2021

. You can find a picture of the three amiibo in the tweet below.

Nintendo’s Amiibo line was launched in 2014 and has grown significantly over the past six years. The majority are based on characters from Nintendo, but some third-party games have received their own connecting lines as well. Specifically, this is the second game in Capcom’s Monster Hunter series to receive a series of amiibo bindings, with the first being Monster Hunter stories. In particular, this line was not published in North America. Given that a sequel to Monster Hunter stories was announced alongside today Monster Hunter: RiseIt seems possible that these numbers could finally get a local release.

Nintendo has been known to re-release Amiibo to tie in with new games. Earlier this month, Nintendo announced a reprint for the amiibo of the four champions of The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. The reprint coincides with the upcoming release of Hyrule Warriors: Age of Bad luck. These numbers have been harder to come by in the past few months, so reprints are great for those who may have missed them.

The past few months have been pretty exciting for fans of Nintendo’s amiibo line! Joker and Hero will be released by next month Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, while Amiibo by Cat Mario and Cat Peach will be released in February along with the Nintendo Switch debut of Super Mario 3D world. With all of these new figures soon to be released, there has never been a better time for fans of the line!
