We have seen many phones with 2x optical zoom with the help of a second camera. However, the Chinese smartphone manufacturer Oppo sets a new standard by introducing a telephone camera with 10x optical lossless zoom . Chinese publication MyDrivers noted that the company is sending media invitations for a January 16 event.
A few weeks ago, a patent leak indicated that Oppo will use 10x optical zoom technology in one of its upcoming devices. The picture shows that the company will use some kind of mirror-based setup to accomplish this.
Two years ago, Oppo introduced its 5x optical zoom technology to mobile phone cameras at the Mobile World Congress (MWC), but none of its products were used. So we can not be sure if the new 10x optical zoom technology will find its way to consumers.
It is not clear whether the company will launch a commercial device or demonstrate the technology with a prototype device. I guess we'll know in a few days.
