Last year's Pixel 3 and 3 XL

Angela Lang / CNET
As of October 15
Google's next flagship phones, the Pixel 4 and XL 4 are critical to the company. This is particularly true given that competitors such as Apple have launched the iPhone 1

1 (19459014), the 11 Pro and the 11 Pro Max (19459005) with enhanced camera features such as night mode, and Samsung is traveling with ] Relaunch with the Galaxy Fold in addition to its Galaxy S10 and grade 10 phones. In short, it's time for Google to improve. Right, Google's latest phones, the middle class pixels 3A and pixels 3A XL trim well. Pixel sales doubled and the 3A pixel continues to impress with its camera and CNET editor Daniel Van Boom called it the most important phone of 2019 .

But last year's Pixel 3 and 3XL did not sell so well despite their extraordinary cameras and their great recognition . This may be because the phones are exclusive to Verizon (although they work for other US carriers) and that people in general are not buying as many phones as they used to ]. The phones Pixel 3 and Pixel 3XL are also expensive, unlike the phones with Pixel 3A. Also reported problems with the performance of Pixel 3 (though we at CNET have not personally experienced these), and the company has just settled a class action suit which becomes ] Payout of $ 500 per piece to first Pixel Phone Owner .

Again, is all that Pixel 4 needs to compete with Apple and Samsung this year.

Google spilled the beans on Pixel 4

But more than ever, we have a better understanding of what Google's next flagship will be capable of. On August 7, the company released the sixth and final beta update for Android Q which is now officially known as Android 10 . In addition to software, Google unexpectedly "leaked" an official pixel 4 image in June and later threw another curveball by releasing a video on YouTube .
via the features for unlocking faces and detecting movement of the phone .

The Pixel 4 and 4 XL will be Google's ultimate view of its mobile operating system, which is also the most popular operating system in the world (19459005), and the phones will have to stand out not only from the Apple iPhone but also other Android competitors like the from Samsung. We are currently about a month away from publishing it. So, in the meantime, keep reading to see what has been speculated, and try again as we update this piece with interesting rumors as they come up.

Confirmed: Pixel 4 exists, has a square camera setup

As mentioned above, Pixel 4 is a real phone – none other than Google has announced it is coming. The company not only confirmed the name, but also included a picture showing several reversing cameras in a square housing.

There was another less official instance when Google confirmed the phone's existence in April when a Google employee commented on Google's Android Open Source project. Buried in a thread about the Google Storage Error Detection Tool and first discovered by 9to5Google, the comment refers to Pixel 4 twice:

In the commentary, the poster states, "It was planned to put this first on Pixel 3 and make sure it all worked, then move on to Pixel 4, etc. If I had a Pixel 4 device … "Although the thread does not reveal anything else over the phone, we've at least learned that it's Pixel 4 and that it's on its way.

Confirmed: We will see it on the 15th of October.

On September 16, Google invited to its Pixel 4 event, scheduled for October 15. . This confirms what we expected when Google released its flagship phones in October first pixel . The pattern usually looks like this: Google will host its I / O Developer Conference in May to keep you informed about the latest Android operating systems and software updates. In October, there is another press release, which sheds light on the hardware developments of Google and introduces a new flagship with the Android version introduced in May. There have been curveballs – for example, Google introduced the Pixel 3A and Pixel 3A XL this year in May. But it looks like we're going to see Pixel 4 (and probably Smart Home) this October.

  Google Event Invitation

Google will host its next big product event in New York in October.

Confirmed: There will be face unlock and motion sensors.

Face unlock and motion sensors were already rumored in June and confirmed by Google on July 29. The company released a video and a blog post showing this The Pixel 4 will have a soli radar chip. This allows the Pixel 4 to unlock the face similar to the Apple Face ID and the feature is secure enough to verify digital payments. The chip can also detect movement and allows you to "skip songs, napping alarms, and mute phone calls" by waving your hand in front of the phone. The technology was developed internally by Google's Advanced Technology and Projects team.

The feature is not dissimilar to the LG G8 ThinQ and provides an insight into a future of the non-contact phone . In December 2018, the FCC issued Google's approval to use Project Soli Sensors for aircraft for the first time.

Confirmed: Pixel 4 in Orange

Google has confirmed that either the Pixel 4 or the 4 XL is available in a new orange hue thanks to a huge billboard on Times Square. The advertisement, which is supposed to boost the hype for the event on October 15, shows the phone in its new color. This verifies an earlier unofficial image posted on the Weibo social network in China showing a bright orange pixel 4 . The former pixel colors include black and white as well as blue, purple and pink. Although I'm not a fan of this particular orange tone, it definitely stands out from the crowd.

Confirmed: Pixel 4 "Coming Soon" for "Best Buy"

Although the phone has not yet been officially launched, sellers are ahead of the game. The US retailer Best Buy has its own welcome page for the Pixel 4, which states that it will be available soon, and on which a picture of the back of the phone will be published. Although it is not a photo, the picture shows Google removing the two-tone glass screen. The back of the phone is now monochrome. A video leak discovered by Slashleaks and 9to5Google shows the back of the phone as a solid black plate.

Probably: Pixel 4 has a front-facing camera

In June, a Pixel 4 in the Wild was allegedly discovered by a tipster for 9to5Google. This shows that the phone has two front cameras (like the current Pixel 3) and a big "forehead". However, Pixel 4's Google sketch, which showed the location of the Soli radar chip on the front of the phone, also showed that the phone had a single forward facing camera.

We're not sure why Google should remove the second wide-angle camera from the phone, as it was useful with the Pixel 3 for wide selfie shots. If you can see how Google can render portrait photos with just one lens, the Pixel 4 may be able to take standard and wide-angle shots with just software. Google has declined a comment request.

Probably: Pixel 4 runs Android 10.

As with previous pixel phones, the Pixel 4 Series will be one of the first phones running Android's latest operating system. We know it will not be the first, considering the OnePlus 7T is now available and supports Android 10 at the factory. Until this year, the names of Google OS were alphabetic and the upcoming update was temporarily referred to as Android Q. We now know that the official name is Android 10 and that it is supposed to give a system-wide dark mode new authorization functions, improved face recognition and increased security.

Rumor: It may be that it calls for help in the event of a crash.

The new Pixel 4 may be able to use the phone's accelerometer and microphone to determine whether you were involved in a crash or not. According to XDA developers. The feature would be available in Pixel 4's Emergency Information App and can also automatically call 911. After a crash was detected, the phone issued an alarm at maximum volume and vibrated. If you do not mute the phone, the app will contact the emergency service and make your location accessible.

Rumor: Pixel 4 can be launched on Sprint

In recent years, the Pixel phone has been launched with the US mobile operator Verizon, although it has worked in other networks such as AT & T and T-Mobile. However, a leaked pixel 4 photo posted by XDA Developers shows the phone running in the Sprint Network . Although Sprint is the country's fourth largest carrier, it is expected to merge with T-Mobile soon. Selling more than one vendor would also increase pixel availability which could have previously impacted sales.

Could the Pixel 4 have a 90 Hz display like the OnePlus 7 Pro?

Juan Garzon / CNET

Rumor: Pixel 4 may have a 90 Hz display

Perhaps it belongs to the ranks of OnePlus 7 Pro and Razer Phone 2 which could be Pixel 4 be equipped with a 90Hz display to 9to5Google. This means that while most phones have a refresh rate of 60 frames per second (in other words, the display refreshes 60 times in 1 second), Pixel 4 updates at 90 frames per second.

From our review of phones with 90 Hz displays, we can see that actions like scrolling through web pages and apps feel smoother, and it would be an exciting feature for Pixel 4.

Rumor: Pixel 4 XL may have thick borders

A alleged photo of the PIxel 4 XL shows that the phone looks pretty much like the Pixel 3 XL. It has a large display and thick bezels at the top and bottom as well as a home screen labeled "Welcome to your new Pixel".

Rumor: Pixel 4 XL is a good gaming phone?

A supposed video from Pixel 4 XL that is almost 6 minutes long, shows the phone as a decent gaming phone. The video was released by a Vietnamese tech blog called ReLab and shows the phone with a white design, matte black edges and an orange power button. In addition to the aforementioned 90-Hz display, a 6.23-inch screen, a 1440-pixel screen, and a 3,700-mAh battery are also available.

Pixel 4 may have been seen in public

Rumor: Pixel 4 XL may also have two cameras on the back

While earlier Pixel XLs were launched with only one camera on the back, leaked photos posted on SlashLeaks (again) suggest that Pixel 4 XL may be has two reversing cameras . Google has typically relied on its camera software to capture portrait photos, for example, which require multiple rear view cameras on other phones. So it's interesting that Google may add another. The same leaked photos also show the phone with the aforementioned hole punch display.

Rumor: Pixel 4 may have enhanced dual-SIM capabilities

The Pixel 4 may have a feature that allows a user to switch between two working phone lines . This is an update from the previous Pixel 2 and Pixel 3 (and their larger counterparts, the Pixel 2 XL and 3 XL). These phones have a standard SIM card slot and eSIM. While two numbers could be provisioned for the device, you could only speak in one line, send text messages, or use data while the other one remained inactive. In other words, only one SIM card can be activated at a time.

But the Pixel 4 could have two active SIMs. If one of the two options is used to make a call or a text, the other line can not answer calls or text messages for the time being. This is similar to how it works of the new iPhones and other Android phones.
