Power Rangers Drakkon̵
WARNING: The following contains spoilers for Power Rangers Drakkon: New Dawn # 2 by Anthony Burch, Simone Ragazzoni, Raul Angulo and Ed Dukshire, on sale now.
The Power Rangers have just suffered a previously unthinkable betrayal by one of their oldest allies, and the consequences reach everyone. They eventually exposed the Unknown Ranger, and he was none other than the very first Red Ranger, Jason Lee Scott. After Jason was cut out of his metal armor by Finster 5, he is reunited with Trini, Zack and Kimberly after almost a decade. He is relieved to hear the news that Lord Drakkon has officially disappeared, but immediately goes into attack mode when Adam runs into the room.

After Jason got pulled from Adam by Kimberly, he wonders why any of them would team up with the likes of Ranger Sentries or Scorpina. Before the correct answers can be given or a proper reunion has taken place, Adam informs everyone that the meteor that their scanners captured is not a meteor at all. Eclipta is on its way to test its defenses from the Dark Specter invasion. She acts as the resilient Lord Drakkon who was set up should Jason ever escape.
Jason suggests returning the Power Coins to their original owners to stop Eclipta and her minions on the battlefield. This leads to another riff in the group as Jason is warned what is going to happen, to which all he can answer is that the Ranger Sentries are a reaction to the fear Lord Drakkon instills in the remaining Power Rangers. After listening to them all, Kimberly decides that she will need her armies to stop Eclipta and that the Power Coins that are already in the diffuser will stay where they are supposed to power the Ranger Sentries. Jason, disappointed with Kim’s decision, decides to leave someone instead of supporting him, whom he now accuses of being a fascist. With no time to convince Jason otherwise, Kimberly urges the others to prepare for the fight.
Kimberly, Zack, Trini and Adam meet Eclipta and her army of Quantrons on the battlefield, and the action begins almost immediately. Even after Eclipta got an explosion from Kim’s bow right in the face, she turns out to be too strong and grabs the Ranger Slayer and hits her on the ground. Zack, Trini and Scorpina attack Eclipta right before she can assassinate Kimberly, and they are all tossed aside with ease before Adam surprises them. Just as he is about to carry out the fatal blow, his sword, along with the armor and weapons of himself and every other ranger sentry, dematerializes. Eclipta takes this opportunity to murder Adam in front of his friends, forcing the rest of the Rangers and their allies to retreat.
Not only are the survivors now affected by the loss of their friend, but they are also trying to keep the city from literally tearing itself apart as everyone who previously had ranger powers remains on a level playing field with those who hold ranger sentinels want to see suffering. When Zack and Trini try to create peace between the two sides, they are shocked to discover that Jason is wearing his Red Ranger armor after taking all the Power Coins out of the diffuser. This action caused the loss of strength that led to Adam’s death, but Jason might not be concerned even if he was aware of it, and that could be the scariest part of the whole problem.
Jason Lee Scott, the first Red Ranger from the original cast, someone who stood as a shining beacon for everything the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers embodied, has apparently turned around. Seeking to reform the Power Rangers the way he once knew them, Jason offers Zack and Trini the opportunity to join him, though at no point does he really acknowledge the chaos that is going on around them. The question certainly arises: if Jason is willing to reclaim Power Coins without considering the consequences, is he still one of the good guys?
